I don't think Caleb went into the military; I think he became an executioner... "Taking em out, taking em all, Shooting the wall, over and out When nothing moves, all’s well, A decision he can find a way to live with..." "Now I ring the bell to tell the world, I'm ready when they bring out the soon to be dead against the wall ..." oo-oo-ooo This necessary evil has no heart ooo-oo-ooo..." This sounds like the process of taking prisoners out to be executed. It's like this was his outlet for his anger, so it's a decision he can live with. He rings the bell to signal the execution hour has arrived and he's ready, when they bring out the prisoners-- the soon-to-be dead. The line that really convinces me is "This necessary evil has no heart." I actually used to personally wonder how executioners became executioners and what type of person could do such a thing. It is supposedly "necessary," yet it is morbid and inhumane at the same time, and it would probably take a person with some degree of emotional disturbance to hold such a job. Hence, this necessary evil has no heart. |

| Do you know if Tony had all four songs planned out from the beginning or if he just had The End of This Chapter and then decided to expand on it later? It would be very cool if that line really was foreshadowing "Juliet" and he had it all planned the whole time. | |

| I noticed the different spellings too. Quite possible you are right. | |

| Sorry, didn't see this comment before I posted mine, but I pretty much agree :-) Except, I don't think it was her idea to die together. I think he made the decision to do it like in the play, and she found a way to trick him. | |

| Which, obviously, accounts for both theories about this song. | |

| In "Don't Say a Word," Caleb says, "I read the book about a man, a love, a woman, how they died." Maybe he read Romeo and Juliet and decided to emulate what happened there. It's possible the woman's name isn't even really Juliet, but he just calls her that because he's crazy and he's convinced himself by this point that they are Romeo and Juliet. | |
