Wonderful track. Simple song about life hitting home as you age.
The title, incedently, is taken from the Arthur C. Clarke novel of the same name. Huge book among the late sixties movers and shakers. Pretty damn fine read, too. |

Sorry, but that is just plain untrue - Dave wrote most of this track's music but did not contribute a single lyric to the whole album, let alone this particular song. The music used on the bridge had in fact originally been written with his forst debut album, sinple title David Gilmour, in mind. |

He's right about the booster shot, very wrong about the band bar Syd doing drugs. All members tried acid and all liked the odd joint. Gilmour even got hooked on Coke for awhile in the 80's, cleaning up when he met his now Wife Polly. |

Heroin use may be off the mark - The original lyrics (demo version) make mention to "blue ones" aka 10mg Diazipam, or Valium as they as better known. Maybe it's about numbing yourself in genral though, through whatever means. |

Under Construction - The Wall Demos. You can grab it off most file sharing/bit torrent sites. Well worth the download, as is the sonically lesser quality but equally interesting The Final Cutting (Demos for The Final Cut). |
