So Brian Wilson was the lead singer of the Beach Boys... what does the line mean? I've been trying but I can't figure it out. I'm too young to have really listened to the Beach Boys, so I don't know if it's a reference to one of their songs. Anyone? |

I'd agree with you. While so many songs out there talk about standing up for your friends and fighting for them, this is in a class of its own. A guy gets a call from a friend, asking for help to commit a crime (in the song it sounds like a bank robbery, in the video it's a drug deal). He does it without asking any more questions. They try to pull it off and imagine a better life, but are caught by the cops at the end. At the end of the video it looks like they start to peel out and run, as well. So it's about doing anything for your friends. Really anything. Not just backing them up in a fight, not just being there to help them - Robbing a place with them, if they really need it, even if it means you could get arrested. There is a cowboy theme to it, which I think makes the song even better. "Life was just what happened while we were busy making plans" is one of my favorite quotes. |
