| Sun Kil Moon – Sam Wong Hotel Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
Down the port's mouth square Pass Sam Wong Hotel should be Down to Portsmouth Square Past Sam Wong Hotel Portsmouth Square.. lovely public space near the hotel on the border of San Francisco's Chinatown and North Beach neighborhoods. I love the sense of place evident throughout Mark Kozelek's lyrics. This song is one of my favorites. |

| Six Organs of Admittance – Jade Like Wine Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Is he drinking jade as though it were wine? or drinking a 'jade-like' wine? ...unclear. The phrasing has always made me think of absinthe... the swirly milky yellow-green of louched absinthe is like liquid jade. And if one is drinking absinthe as though it were wine, that's going to get you to a strange place rather quickly. I don't know what the song is about, but it's always made me think of someone who has been cast out or rejected, and doesn't mind, or is defiant about it.. thrown out into the cold and drinking fast to get drunk/warm/oblivious. In any case, it's a beautiful, haunted, haunting song. the guitar work is stellar. | |
| Six Organs of Admittance – Thicker Than A Smokey (Gary Higgins cover) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
some lyric corrections: first couple of verses that have ???'s in them.. this is copied from the original Gary Higgins song (I don't think Ben Chasny/Six Organs changed any of the lyrics) If you travel with a spider in your duffle bag With you good weather goes And if you get hung on a frozen stair Be here for the snow, oh oh. It's often that I wish to leave myself Buy me some fancy clothes Get on a stretch of a winding road All in my canvas show, oh oh. also, "Quicker than lookey down a railroad track" should be "Quicker than a locy (locomotive) down a railroad track" and this line "But i dont and its no use no more, dont get anymore" should end with "no good anymore" instead of "don't get anymore" All in all a lovely dreamy song.. both the cover and the Gary Higgins original. :) |

| Tom Waits – Take It with Me Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| the correct lyric is 'fell asleep on Beulah's porch'.. I guess Beulah here could either be a woman's name, or a poetical reference to the land Beulah (as in the old gospel song "Beulah Land", a land from where you can see Heaven). According to Wikipedia Beulah is from the Hebrew word meaning Married. I posit that this song is the best love song, ever. | |
| Coil – The Dreamer Is Still Asleep Lyrics | 16 years ago |

one of my all time favorite songs. so beautiful. the lyrics should read: may the goddess keep us from single vision and Newton's sleep it's a paraphrased quote from William Blake.. "May God us keep from single vision, and Newton's sleep!" |
