They said before they played it live that it was about taking ecstasy. All lyrics point to ecstasy as well, doesn't really give me any signs of it being about acid or shrooms. |

I'm going to guess that the reason you believe this to be a romantic love song is because it's got a pretty melody and you listen to MGMT because you think that Andrew is hot, so, it's understandable that all of their songs symbolize love and sex to you whether or not they contain any lyrical imagery regarding either of those things. The reason Vball believes the song is about drugs is because there IS imagery pertaining to drug use.
"Yeah, I found a whistle as thin as a sheet, to split the dumbness of a vision between asleep and a sleep." Clearly referring to LSD, as it commonly comes on sheets of blotter paper.
Maybe if you were to take a few psychedelic journeys yourself you'd begin to realize how much psychedelic symbolism is contained not only in MGMT's lyrics, but in the lyrics of many artists. Not to mention many of the other wonderful things psychs can show you. |

Haha, sorry, couldn't help myself. Definitely about dropping acid, there's probably other meaning as well, but anyone who believes this song has nothing to do with drug use is 12 or otherwise uninformed on the subject. |

i'm pretty positive that the "electric feel" is referring to lsd, not heroin, this is way too upbeat and posi a song to be about heroin. |

i assumed from the first time i heard "electric feel" that they were talking about acid, the music video confirmed it. and megavampire69, please think for a second, i realize that you're probably 13 years old, but you have to realize that a band isn't going to say that their hit single is about acid or they'll end up with your parents and a bunch of other kids' parents bitching and moaning until the song is banned from the radio and other forms of media. |
