I'll start by saying I really love this song. The title of the song made me immediately think of a lyric off of an earlier MCS song. "I reach for the bottle and disappear" from Better Open the Door. Generally speaking, I this song is about using alcohol as a means to escape from your problems. "Disappear" refers to the whole escapism idea. Also the line "Medication, need medication" refers to self medicating via alcohol, and developing a "need" for it. "Coursing through your interstates, All mad and great, confused and counterfeit" - I think here interstates are an analogy to the network of veins and blood vessels in the human body, and alcohol is coursing through them. The second part of the line of course refers to the mental/behavioral characteristics of someone who is drunk. Mad, Great (feeling good), confused, counterfeit (all of those feelings are false and fleeting). This of course is just my own personal opinion. |
