I always think this tune is about the singer (X) and his want to be girlfriend (Y) and then a seperate person on the side (J) X has liked this girl for 2 years but she keeps playing games with him, so after getting sick of 2 years of waiting around and being played with, he gives up and hands her off to J, the ending of the first verse I see is written from J's perspective I hope you understand And your love is standing next to me Is standing next to me J & X were possibly friends? The song then reverts back to X as the narrator as he thinks of his time chasing Y and how stupid he was, concluding with him wondering if she still thinks of him. |
