This was the first Pink Floyd song I ever heard, probably when I was seven or eight years old, and I liked it a lot back then. My dad played it all the time, and I didn't even know it was Pink Floyd but I loved the song regardless. But somehow I lost the song as the years went by and, even though I still remembered the melody (I had it in my head all the time, despite not knowing what song it was), I didn't find it again for years after I first heard it. But as soon as I heard it again, I instantly recognized it and started singing along. That may be when my love for Pink Floyd subconsciously began.
Now, however many years later (I'm 18 now), I still adore this song, and I always will. Pink Floyd's songs are always beautiful and moving and this one is no different. I could listen to it over and over again, and I do. David Gilmour is one absurdly underrated musician/singer. As I've gotten more familiar with Pink Floyd, I've found that I prefer him to the other band members. |

I just love Bridget's voice singing harmony in this song. So innocent and angelic--almost childlike! We don't get to hear her voice enough.
As for what the song is about, I would guess that it's about the life of a couple: all of the love, pain and confusion they go through in the name of romance. It's nice to hear something as serious as a relationship be sung to so lighthearted and cheery a tune. |

I'm not completely sure what this song is about. Obviously the the last verse eludes to suicide, but the rest of the song is not like that. It sounds like he has a secret ("dark side") and it's killing him that his loved one doesn't know it. Would that person still love him if she knew his secrets? If she did find out, would she still be there for him or betray him in the end ("would you sell your story to Rolling Stone?")? Would she call him crazy and "send him packing"?
I love how all of Pink Floyd's songs come together; every album having a story that is somehow intertwined with other albums. It's really remarkable. This song has parallels to The Wall, what with the shotgun blast tearing it down and hiding secrets within oneself. It's so well done.
These songs are always going to be up for interpretation, but I can definitely say that this is one of the saddest songs I've ever heard. |

Beautiful. Absolutely stunning. I've never heard such an emotional song in my life. All of the personal pain and tragedy that Loreena went through is reflected through this heart-wrenching song. She puts so much emotion and passion into each and every one of her songs that I can't help but feel awe and admiration for this woman. She has a gift that few musicians have--the soul and fervor to captivate and audience not just in music, but with soul and emotion as well. Her music makes me ache and yearn, smile and cry. Lovely. I think this song is pretty obvious, but I'll write about it anyway. It fits my love life to a certain degree. I think this is about some boy that the narrator was in love with but he somehow hurt her (in my case, a womanizer). Now she's angry and wants to know why he did that to her. But the line "you're a brown-eyed angel in disguise" is also a little befuddling because it seems so nice to say after someone has hurt her. But this could mean that he showed her that there are better things than him out there for her; he showed her what she DOESN'T want in a man. Just a possibility. All I can say is that it definitely relates to my life at one point. |

This is the best verse. It's all about helping each other when we need it most. Who cares about the religion or commercial aspects of Christmas? Those things may matter to some, but in reality, all that matters is the charity. It seems that Christmas is the only time of year that everyone gathers together for the goodness of mankind, and it's a shame that it doesn't last longer than just that wintery season. |
