| Grizzly Bear – Gun-Shy Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| To me the lyrics describe someone who just can't figure out how to proceed with living because they run solely on misguided faith. He's depended on a guide be it friends, family, a lover, his ego, drugs or God that has only led him astray. Whatever the guide is, it is seemingly only existent for its own benefit as the singer always ends up being damaged somehow. And after trying so hard to follow the guide for so long, he's left after so many years no longer able to act on his own will(gun-shy). He is always looking for signs. Seeing the sky stare at him, putting his ears to the ground, but to no avail (Always pushing against the earth). He left his mind long ago and put on a fake persona to try to force himself to act. I am led to think this person believes in God even though he's only given glimpses of the truth and eventually led by them into tribulation. In the video, 3 of them are busy taking samples of their skin, blood and doing tests on their bodies. But one of them lays motionless until the very end when he's blowing out smoke. Then he is resurrected. Maybe a drug reference but I think it could be the expression "blowing smoke" as if he is really only trying to get pity out of us so as to continue his addiction to fear. And he feels alive again temporarily. | |
| The Flaming Lips – When Yer Twenty Two Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
I'm twenty two. It has been the most transitional, transcendental, and existential time of my life. I've stopped dying against the world by over-analyzing people and hating how terrible humanity actually is and now I'm living against life by believing in my personal goals and believing in my relevance. Its like I have confidence in myself yet I walk amongst a backdrop of sheer hell and confusion. The sun is black, my number is backwards, I'm going outside of myself and walking on the crazy scramble of the masses yet trying not to leave a trace by cracking the eggshells. But no matter what, they crack because that is what people want to happen if you haven't cracked the shells yet. And when yer twenty two trying to make music, people don't give you any respect because your music is grungy and totally has no meaning or purpose other than loud noise because you can't play your instruments and you're just some underground punks trying to be "different". And so people will try to steal your thunder so you never quite feel good enough. And so you're bone has cracked, THEY'VE swallowed YOUR pride and the eggshells are flying and your caught in that whirlwind of rage. And all you can do is wait until the eggshells have landed and all is calm. Then you realize when you get to a quiet place where you can think(like driving)and you realize the whole thing is removed when yer twenty two; being so young and ignorant still, you realize that any trouble you caused, any anger you felt, is gone because there is still a lot of growing to do. The whole thing leaves you alone, a nothing, with no superlatives other than you are alone. You are free. So you start over and try again. |

| Vampire Weekend – Diplomat's Son Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| It's funny because he was a diplomats son. Awesome! Since I can't connect with it on a homosexual level, it really make me think about the first time I got high. Or any time i get high with my friend. Im stupidly funny when high so when I hang with him he's adamant about getting me high for his own pleasure. Or the friend could be weed itself. Whatever. Great song | |
| The Good, the Bad and the Queen – A Soldier's Tale Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
The most romantic song I have ever heard. |
|
| The Good, the Bad and the Queen – A Soldier's Tale Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Definitely about getting drunk, loving life(soul winning love) passing out in the woods, waking up feeling good(still drunk) and then that evening when the drunkenness is gone it has left you feeling depressed and sad and alone, looking for solace in technology but Upon realizing there is nothing that it can do make you feel better, the sound of singing birds or just the presence of life in general suddenly makes everything magical again. | |
| Grizzly Bear – I Live with You Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
So he could be saying people will try to keep he and god apart because homosexuality is a sin, even though he knows in his heart that god won't punish him...or at least he hopes so: "dont put me on, don't make me beg!" (for grace) Th church boy choir absolutely perfect this song and verifies the meaning as they sing "return" as in wanting the messiah to return or god to show himself to affirm his presence in the singers life. Or it could just be. About breaking up. |

| Grizzly Bear – I Live with You Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Changed is right, its about the singers relationship....with God. just read it until you understand why. He believes in him but it seems like sometimes he goes missing a nd the singer starts question ng an saying "don't put me on!" also i heard it mentioned that on of them is gay | |
| Grizzly Bear – Foreground Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Woooow! incredible song. I thinks about how people take every moment in life for granted. I love the first two lines for instance. "take another shift, hands in the middle hands in the middle" we see taking another shift at work as a helplessly dull routine but then the singers gives us this image of Team holding theirs hands together like a team huddle as to say "is this not a beautiful thing, people working together and living their lives? the little fights that often turn into pointless relationship disasters, the times we miss our flight or get lost and act as though our lives are over--we take everything, EVERYTHING for granted, but really this seemingly dead-end existence is actually the exciting foreground of this grandiose painting called life. Or maybe its just about breaking up |

| Gorillaz – Doncamatic (All Played Out) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I thought it sounded like "claim back the boy you left behind" (his childhood) but i can't tell. Anyway, i think its about the autonomous music industry of today and how the same songs get played over and over until the listeners are bored. Then the next batch of songs is crapped out. And so on. Also, when he says "close the white book, unplug the brain from the game cause its time to wipe out till the stars get on the fame" it makes me think of a macbook laptop and facebook. Its as if he is saying, "I'm gettin the F*** out of this robotic video game of a life while i can, and the rest of you can have your 'famous' lives in magazines and social networking sites. This song is a sign of what is to come from Damon ALbarn I think. He's going solo. My guess is he's going to parody pop singers like Lady Gaga. ^(-.-)^ hmmm |

| Horse the Band – Shapeshift Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Its about growing up from a baby--who is happy, non-self-conscience and interested in everything--into a confused, miserable, self-important adult and hating your significant other and leaving them because they want to marry you. That's how I interpret the video. The lyrics alone seem more like its simply about breaking up when your girlfriend wants to get married (sing the cripple song) | |
| Gorillaz – Stylo Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I think its him trying to reconcile with the fact that we're sapping the the life out of earth. When he looks down into the water(the eyes of the earth---sometimes the eyes of a person can look like pools of water ;]) and sees a mako swimming to the surface, it reminds him that there is still something completely natural surviving without any interference of technology. Then he realizes that perhaps he shouldn't feel hopeless and brokenhearted when he looks at the electric illuminated sky. There is still hope. | |
| Gorillaz – Stylo Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I think the word "Stylo" is a reference to things that are synthesized or fake. Like anope mentioned, Stylo is a brand of shoe but it is also a pen used on touch screens. There is also a stylo keyboard in which you use a stylo pen to play it. I think the whole song is comparing a feeling of unaccomplishment and fakeness to that of synthesized music or pretty much all manufactured things. Materials are taking over the lives of people. "electric is the love" is like saying the love isn't powered by the natural and magical feeling of love, but a source of limited energy. It will fade eventually. | |
| Canon Blue – Target Practice Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Canon Blue is pure magic for me. This song is, in my perception is about a guy who feels vulnerable to everything and everyone because he is captive of his own mind. He can't sleep because he can't stop thinking about life and contemplating his ideas. He's depressed, bored, unsure of what he's doing in this world, unsure of why he's unsure. I get the feeling it's about a guy who just can't figure it out, but in his heart knows there are better ways to learn...how to live. | |
| Empire of the Sun – We Are the People Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| wow...don't think so...the lyrics are pretty blatant in showing that this person doesn't want to lose a strong love. haha..mayan calendar...that is ridiculous.... | |
| Empire of the Sun – We Are the People Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
i think the meaning is pretty clear. Their in love which is the greatest force governing every boy and girl, they feel like they rule the world because their love is so strong, he doesn't want to lose that, but is sure she's going to leave him. end. |

|
| Coconut Records – This Old Machine Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I think its about a car that has finally died...or an oxygen tank that has finally arrived. | |
| Efterklang – Step Aside Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I see this song simply as being about a break up. The lyrics are dialogue, shortened to just a few words a piece and it is in the perspective of the person being broken up with and he/she feels meaningless without the other person. Dispose, (You're getting rid of me like disposing of a meager scrap of waste) Get around.(It is as if you think I am just an object in your way.) Access, (I'm granting you access to leave; I just want you to be happy.) and so I... step aside. I suppose I fall as I fly (As I leave you I become nothing 'or' I have no purpose. I'm in limbo. 'or' I'm onto a new beginning but there is no optimism in it.) Make me say I found aim, ( *Realizing it isn't so easy to let them go* Give me a reason to live, or some kind of direction so I can have some kind of psuedo-optimism to find my new life.) I follow your side (Don't you see I know nothing other than your love and loving you? I am attached to you.) Straps and Boots, if I lose, I follow you blind. (If i lose everything; my physical and mental health; my material goods; my will to live; I will follow you regardless of anything else in this world. You are what I believe in. |
