not to mention that often times laws can actually prevent social workers from being able to protect children. when my girlfriend called cps about her neighbors, they did an inspection of the house and interview right away, but without any definite corroborating evidence of abuse, cps (and the kids) were out of luck |

the line about her cat turning into a beam of light makes me tear up every time and makes me think of my cats when I was a child |

I think this song is actually about someone who has really messed up his relationship, a fight or a break up or something. Most of the imagery is negative, the clouds running away, the sky being a petrifying blue (immediately after the narrator thinking a little while about 'you'), and the most chilling in my mind, the sad young cardinals trying to sing. And the narrator stating twice that he should not be allowed to touch anything. It all seems so sad and frustrating, but God it's a beautiful song. |

Maybe I'm not reading enough into this like everyone else is, but I don't think he sees himself as an angel of death, I think he actually sees himself as a raven. He sees the other people as ravens as well, which explains why he "flew about the murder." A group of crows or ravens being referred to as a "murder."
And the "Madonna painted on the church house walls in whales blood and banana leaf" could quite possibly be my favourite lyric of any song I've heard. |

as much as I like Belle and Sebastian, I think it's Ironic that this song sounds like almost anything from Nick Drake's album "Bryter Later," it being called "A Century of Fakers" and all. |
