Neil said in an interview that his sister gave him a poster for Xmas with the phrase "Keep calm and carry on". I think it was his dad who made the statement, try and write a song about that. Neil took up the challenge and Struck Down is his answer. Other than that fascinating tidbit I agree with the other posters dissection of the lyrics... |

This song has always perplexed me. Like most of Neil Fallon's lyrics the meaning can be highly subjective. My opinion on the meaning of Smoke Banshee is that it's referencing all the medicinal cures that have been deemed unsuitable for public consumption. A Banshee is usually a reference to Death. The lyric "Medicine of modern miracles, voodoo to those out of focus Experts explain experience -- "Hocus pocus, hocus pocus!" seems to be saying that the so called experts (FDA maybe?) are holding back important research and possible cures to disease by telling the public it's quackery (voodoo and the hocus pocus). The reason this is done is so big drug companies can continue to monopolize the industry and continue to make obscene amounts of money off the sick. Marijuana prohibition comes to mind.... |

My favorite song off SCFTW, and also one of the hardest to decipher. I think the lyrics are generally about the conflicts initiated by the USA (the west). Below the elders conspire To turn the merciless and massive wheel - the war machine being fed by the "elders", could be an illumanati reference or the men who make the decisions on who fights where. The chorus of "Strange cousins from the west overstay their welcome Peculiar manner and strange dress Who will ever dare to tell them?" - For evolutionists the belief of all humanity is linked to one common ancestor, in turn making us all family so to speak. The west being the U.S. who have overstayed their welcome in Iraq. |
