I think the country sound is supposed to be ironic in a way "I gave my life but no to hear some country western song". I think the line: "There is no decent place to stand In a massacre; But if a woman take your hand Go and stand with her." is classic Cohen, a brilliant image. |

Not sure about the "And confident I was my heart was sadly struck" line, any suggestions? Think the songs prettyself explanatory, the singer sees an old flame and can't believe he used to fancy her. The lines beginning with "And..." are addressed to his current girlfriend. |

I always thought it was "a fuck at half speed", as opposed to "for a house beat", but I guess the latter one makes a little bit more sense. I've also been debating the line "and you're probably on pills". At first I thought that he meant ecstasy, from the fact that he's obviously met her in a dark club with "strobe lights" (and I guess that could be where the "house beat" part fits as well). I've changed my mind now though, I think the pills she's on are contraceptive ones, so he's assuming that because she is so easy she'll be on these. I think this is backed up by the line "If we both have the same diseases, Its irelevant girl", saying that if there's no chance of her getting pregnant and they can't catch any new STDs then why bother using a condom. |

"Just roll over boy don't make me do this" I think this is him speaking to the guy she's now going out with. He talks about wanting to kill him but he obviously doesn't want to, maybe cause it's not the guys fault or maybe because he doesn't want to hurt her. He wishes the guy would just go away (roll over) so as he wouldn't feel so bad about not having her. |

I don't think the songs is about drugs at all. What I toom from the lyics was that the singer/writer was in dark place, maybe suffering from depression or something similiar (I've got this disease that I can't shake and I'm just rattling through life). I think this is something that crops up in alot of Frightened Rabbit songs, The Greys being a clear example. I think when he talks about his limbs falling off he's referring to losing his lover and the only thing good in his life (Because that limb that I have lost, It was the only thing holding me up). When he questions her coming back to him it's because he doesn't think himself good enough for her (you must be a masochist), that he'll only hurt her because of where his mind is. Towards the end of the song, you can see him realise that he needs her to help him carry on. When the line changes to "Well are you a masochist" I think this is him talking to himself, saying that perhaps she actually wants to be with him and if she does come back he can start recovering and becoming 'normal' again (Doesn't that make us the perfect pair? Just you and me, and we'll start again). Brilliant song and album. |
