| As I Lay Dying – Forever Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This song isn't about god. When Tim writes about god, he capitalizes the word "you" in the lyric packet. In fact, in shadows are security, You is the only capitalized word in the whole album, he doesn't even capitalize I or the first word of a song. Of course, it could be a typo. I personally think it's about love at first sight because there are some lines that can't be explianed as faith, and I'm almost positive Tim's been a strong christian his whole life, so writing a song about some spiritual epiphany doesn't make much sense. It could also be an extended metaphor for some philosophical concept he was introduced to. It's so vague when you start taking this stuff for something beyond face-value. To me, the face-value and the most simple explanation of this song is love at first sight. | |

| They're christians in a band not a christian band. There are about 6.7 million interviews of Tim that he's emphasized that they're NOT a christian band. They say they don't write about their faith, they only say that their faith intrinsically alters their perception of the world, and in that, they are christian, but they are not purposely christian. They write about real life experiences and struggles... so it could be either. everyone on here is so closed minded and ardent with their interpretations, it's ridiculous. I think Tim has been a pretty faithful christian his whole life, so if this is something that actually happened it could just as easily be about love. The description seems to fit "love at first sight" to the fingerprints. | |

I wrote a literary analysis on some of Tim's work. I got the most out of this song, and these are by far the best lyrics he's ever written as far as I'm concerned. It's so vivid and so descriptive. anyway this is what I wrote about it. And I refer to it as a poem cuz I wasn't sure if my professor would take lyrics.... but Tim's lyrics do pass as modern poetry. I think he was a philosophy major, but it wouldn't surprise me if he took some serious creative writing classes. You can really tell his lryics taking a step up in Frail Words Collapse, and again in Shadows are Security. anyway... here's what i wrote: I really like this poem. I think it narrates how Lambesis worked on a particular piece–one that held an extremely heavy emotional meaning for him. He used whatever work this poem describes as a way to vent that burden. The first two lines are great images. “I laid the night before/unraveled the tangles of my heart”. This is great use of concrete image to convey not only his emotional state, but also what he was trying to accomplish in his work. Similar to the “The Red Wheelbarrow” by William Carlos Williams, where the paint on the wheelbarrow keeps getting richer and richer, if youlook at the water analogies, they start off as mild, then become more and more extreme. First he mentions a stream of uncertainty, becoming more extreme and harsh until the streams become torrents of guilt and shame. They finally culminate as “an endless ocean of self defeat,” as if the stream, torrents, and oceans are an allusion to the emotions–the swelling of them as he writes–that he’s experiencing. Self defeat is the culmination of all his grief, and he feels lost in an ocean of it, helplessly. It’s as if the streams and torrents are what carried him into his a state if agony and fed his creativity. After the lines: “as time goes on/some months are yet to pass,” the metaphor changes. Instead of sorting the emotions and writing, he is >>>reflecting<<< on what he has written. “Puddles of ink/surround this tired chair” is a great image. It says so much, and it is so vivid. “Puddles of ink” represents what he has written down while reflecting. His sorrow “has been spilled into (his) reflection”. The title of the poem is “Reflection,” so that line could mean his sorrow was spilled into this particular poem, which he possibly considers as a sort of emotional reflection of himself. It could also mean that this poem is a reflection of how he felt while writing. |

| Actually, to be technical, "you" is capitalized if it is referencing any specific person who remains otherwise unnamed. You isn't a pronoun in this context because there is no name given for "you", and he doesn't mean you literally as you (as in the person readin/listening). But I'm guessing Tim Lambesis isn't an English major either, so it could very well be about god anyway. | |

| Haste the Day – Porcelain Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I think this song might have something to do with judging people prematurely and no giving them a chance to prove themselves. Of course it could just me all the christian mumbo-jumbo Haste the Day seems to put in every song. Jesus will save you even if your a murder so long as you say "praise jesus!" before you die. What a wonderful value to teach our youth. | |

Correct lyrics: You tried to spit at the sun-- blot it out like a burning ember. (She has a porcelain soul) As you crawl under the moon, make it hurt; make this bed and sleep forever, (she has a porcelain soul) because the life you live is less than alive. as they scream, "let them burn!" you know you'll burn at the hands of your kin (as they scream, "let them burn!") You know you won't, won't forgive them. She crawls through the dirt like a four-legged spider. He's there, laying beside her when the serpents tongue is wrapped around her neck. "Let them burn! Let them burn!" And he knows that she died inside (and he knows). Open hands hold porcelain souls. Into the eyes of a traitor, I still see a believer. The witness is here. She's a witch and I love her. Buy back her soul with the blood of a savior. Is it too much to forgive? The witness is here. Open hands hold porcelain souls. She falls to her knees and she begs for forgiveness. As the heavens open their gates, the wood burns and the fire blazes but he bought back her soul with the blood of a savior. |

| I don't think the lyrics are about drug use. I'm almost positive it's got something to do with adultery. maybe even rape, but i don't think so. | |
