It could be argued that "ghosts from the past" could be a metaphor for everything I said in my original post. Perhaps you're right, though. Who knows? |

The music and lyrics are both very reminiscent of the song of the same title made popular by Billie Holiday. The original was written by Gerald Marks and Seymour Simons. I recommend checking out the Billie Holiday tune and then deciding which one you like better. |

Probably the saddest song ever written. I think it's a song about disappointment. Sitting alone, in the dark, reflecting on the choices you've made and the way your life has turned out because of them. Thinking hard about how life hasn't lived up to your youthful expectations and aspirations and wondering what things would be like if you had chosen a different path. |

The redhead, green coated girl on the cover of the single is extremely beautiful. The two songs are almost as sexy as she is. |

I guess that's a possibility. I have so far been able to use audacity sound editing program too combine the blue and black versions into one 7:14 version. It works pretty well but since the "white sheep" version is a track ripped from vinyl, the speed is slightly off and therefore, it does not mesh very well with the other two versions. |

| MGMT – Time to Pretend Lyrics

This song is a little summery purple neon metallic bubble, making it's way down the ground slowly and popping on contact with the cold earth. It's a rainy day that you spent with the girl you love(d) when you were skipping class and ducking out in little abandoned trailers, making love and dreaming and talking about all the things you'd do if you had the time or the ambition. It's a lazy song with a theme that is not too uncommon to those times in your life when you're a sophomore / junior in high school... you're just beginning to understand some things in the world (or at least you think you are...!), but the pressures, responsibilities, expectations and fears of adulthood are still a comfortable distance away and you know that there's still time left to be a kid... for just a little while... This song is about living each day to the fullest. Plain and simple. |

These are the correct words:
Lovely lady there is no power that could tear me away from you
In my weakest hour I would never sell out on you
You've got to know, you've got to know I believe in your party
All of our children will love you again
I OOPsed the track and isolated the vocal I could hear every word crystal clear.
These guys should have a website or something to put their lyrics up. |

| Frank Zappa – Status Back Baby Lyrics

It's about a thing that happened to Frank when he was in high school. During a pep rally at school one day, a girl on the cheer leading squad singled him out by name and scolded him for not cheering and clapping in front of the whole school. Zappa bluntly replied, "Hey, (name of girl), why don't you go fuck yourself?" The girl ran out of the gymnasium sobbing and he was suspended or something. Apart from that, he was not really considered "cool" or popular as a highschooler.
I read this all in his official autobiography. |

I agree with all previous posts... especially the one that suggested a movie be based on this awesome song. Haha! Stones are simply great. They can play any kind of music and make it great. |

I concur with Ice Cream Zombie. This track is great. It's that bit of spontaneous weirdness that makes MGMT that awesome band that they are!
That said, I would have to say if I had to pick one song to throw off this record, it would probably be this one.
BUT I still love it and wouldn't change a thing unless I had to for some reason (although I can't imagine a scenario in which such a burden would be thrust upon me, thank God)
MGMT is awesome and this album is amazing. So is this song. |

This is a love song. But it is sung to a girl AND from the viewpoint of a girl. It's a song about a girl who is startled to discover she's having romantic / sexual feelings about another girl. It's about lesbianism. |

The first verse could have something to do with technology. "SI" is the atomic symbol for silicon, which is an element used in a lot of electronics and computers and stuff. Silicon can be found in sand on "shores" and beaches. |
