He's said that the song is specifically about people who think north is up, and how they are all going to hell. You can actually see that in the line "And if we met halfway in the middle of the planet" - I think this is a reference to them going to hell. In addition to that its about stupid people who don't know how to read maps - that is, people who don't understand that a mercator projection distorts the size of the earth towards the poles. |
