I'm glad to see other people enjoy and appreciate this song as much as I do. I've loved this song since I bought "Vivid" on cassette tape when the album was first released. I bought the album for the hits but gave it a listen through and this song has stuck with me from the first note I heard. It's heartbreaking every time I hear it. |

I've always read that Jacques Brel wrote this song about a condemned man on death row who murdered his wife and her lover and this is his lament to his former life. In the Brel version the wife is named Francoise, her lover is Emile and is father is Papa. And the song while extremely fast in tempo, is very dark and foreboding. |

I love how all of Lou Christie's hits (this one, Rhapsody in the Rain, Lightnin' Strikes & Two Faces Have I) all sound the same. They all have the background singers (who always sound like they had a lot of fun recording their parts) and Lou's supreme falsetto. There is no doubt about who is singing a Lou Christie hit! |

I think one of the greatest things about this song is the fact that Sting is credited as a co-writer because of the repeated "I want my MTV" mantra throughout the song is the exact same melody as the Police's "Don't Stand So Close to Me." In fact, Sting is the singer in the background throughout the chorus and the "I want my MTV" chant. |
