The trees reach like hands to the sky from the land And towards each other too they bend I watch them from a window like an old gray tired widow Who was married once to the handsomest of plans I'm gonna sit at a table over Christmas with Rachel And we're gonna laugh about the town where we were born Maybe I just need a vacation, this spring drive with me to Portland The sun will cast our shadows like arrows to the ocean and keep us warm Keep us warm So cheer up, my dear. The sky's not always clear There needs to come a setting sun before the night stars appear And those tree skeletons know that winter has begun But that with it comes a new year. No, next year won't unravel like this last one did We'll travel out to the water every chance we get 'Cos this dream's as good as dead If we only let it live here behind our eye lids If we always keep it hid So cheer up, my dear. Rub your eyes clear A song can't be sung until you Breath and fill your lungs with the cold dark air And a banner can't be hung until you've Climbed the lowest rungs of the ladder leaning here You remember how your parents clapped waved and smiled Every little thing made them proud when you were a child Well now you've grown and you're the coolest kid I know But somehow they lost their interest long ago Well cheer up, my dear. I'll always be here And the sky above you, the kids our age line up to love you, And you have nothing to fear There's a sky above you, the kids our age we line up to love you, And you have nothing to fear. |

love this song =) here's another try at the lyrics so I have under two minutes to sing you this song it's quite the challenge actually because I've loved you so long and I know I'm always writing and so you think I'm good with words but I can hardly express how I feel 'cos words aren't why love is real there was a message in a bottle at the bottom of the sea somebody mistook rock for paper accid-d-dentally so their letter never made it to the lover they adore I had to fish it from the ocean floor and I know you won't believe me but I swear to god it's true the letter said "I love you, but I don't know why I do" and that's exactly when it hit me that's exactly how I feel 'cos though my love is real I don't know why I love you I just do now I have under 50 seconds to finish this song it's still surprising people wonder how we've lasted so long do you remember when we wed how everyone one said it was wrong really who cares how they feel 'cos wise friends aren't why love is real and I don't know why I love you I just do now there's a singer in new york his name is dave deporis and I stole a line of verse from him to make my chorus and I'd write about myself except what can you do but steal when what you wanna say has already been written and this happens all the time with books and songs and even wine except the last one is a secret since for that one you'll get fined I'm getting off the subject but at least it's not a crime that though my love is real and oh my love it's real I don't know why I love you I just do |
