I can't believe this only has 13 comments! This song is just pure emotion. Such an amazing song as it clearly means a lot to Josh, if you watch a few live videos on Youtube, Josh makes a pretty swift exit and looks pretty emotional, which in my personal opinion takes the song to the next level as he singing each word with such emotion. ANYWAY... Clearly about a break up, which sounds like the passion had gone and by the end was an extremely exhausted and tired relationship. ('So this is the end of you and me, We had a good run and I'm setting you free, To do as you want, to do as you please, Without me') The process of working who you are after a long term relationship, and also working out who they have become. ('Cause I don't know who I am, When you're running circles in my head, And I don't know just who you are, When you're sleeping in someone else's bed') I think 'Three whole words and eight letters late' Is absolutely beautiful. One of those songs that touches you, so you carrying on listening, put it on repeat, really listen to the lyrics, apply your own meaning and cry your heart out too! Amazing. |

Firstly, i love this song. Secondly, i think the song is about a guy that she likes, which may be scared to be in a relationship because he's been hurt in the past ('I know you've been burned but every fire is a lesson learned') but she would do anything('I left my house, I left my clothes, Door wide open, Never knowing, You're so worth it, you are')to take back the past and erase all his pain he's experienced - and could see how much she loves him. ('But I wish I could feel all it for you, I wish I could be it all for you, If I could erase the pain And maybe you'd feel the same') With anyone we love, you generally want to take all negativity and pain away from them to protect them. Towards the end of the song she appears to want to come clean to him and find out get things out in the open ('It's time to come clean And make sense of everything, It's time that we found out who we are') Gorgeous Ellie, i love it! |

Sometimes a agruement is where you find out about how someone really feels about you. They are moments of complete passion. The song is clearly about how she's got a boyfriend who is on the surface 'perfect' but she misses her ex who is the complete opposite to the current. But she misses the drama,excitement and intensity of the old passionate relationship! ... I know this feeling ALL too well! |

To me, this song is about a relationship that could have worked, Two people that truely cared for each other But he feels as though theres a problem, trys to reason it out with reason, logic and science. The rational answer doesn't match to the answer he truely has in his heart 'Questions Of Science, Science & Progress - Do Not Speak As Loud As My Heart' but he chooses logic over love and ends up loosing her. Once she's gone he realizes what he's lost, but nothing will bring her back. I think the 'Come back and haunt me' is almost of saying i dont want to forget you.. I just wish my ex would sing this to me. He admits he feels that exact way.. I can't help but think of him. He'd sing yellow to me all the time, I saw coldplay just under a month ago (After we'd broken up), they played The Scientist twice, once in the main concert and then in the encore. Tore me apart the second time.. funny how on the way home I recieved a call from him, which was the first time in about 3 weeks..! I love Coldplay they genuinely seem like wonderful people that create beautiful, inspiring music that somehow seems to touch everyones hearts. |
