| Yeah, not my favorite on the album either, but I really enjoyed their performance of this song on Letterman..the song is very catchy..Mute Math is so good I guess it just doesn't shine out as well as it would if another band wrote it | |

"Next time you point your finger, I'll point you to the mirror" - Paramore Cody's last line in the song isn't advocating willful sin whatsoever, it's called honesty.. something you don't see in the music industry you just bashed.. he's saying even though he loves God, it is impossible to think he's going to please Him in every given situation, to think you can undermines the Sacrifice for your sins PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE. If you could earn your salvation why did Christ die for it? And I'd love to have a conversation with you about alcohol and cigarettes, and how in moderation, you can't consider them blatant acts against God. "Body is God's temple"1corinthians 6:19, right? And "do not get drunk on wine..leads to debauchery"-ephesians 5:18. 1 corinthians 6:19.. if you apply this to drinking or smoking you've misinterpreted the verse.. see 6:18. Even without seeing 6:18. Let's take this "literal" version of the interpretation that God is inside your body in a physical manner like a fetus and play it out... that should mean you should prioritize your health in ALL cirumstances.. meaning you shouldn't do anything at all that can give your body harm. No more car rides, roller coasters, sports, sky diving, bunjee jumping, or fast food. Anyone would agree none of those things are blatant acts against God, yet they all harm your body that "contains God in a physical manner". That argument falls apart. Yes, I agree in a way, that prolonged use of something like cigarettes can weaken you as a person, but in no way does that make you not love God or any less "godly". If it helps you calm down and maybe even help you stop and think of what God wants for you in certain siuations where you'd act on stress and anger, then how does that make you bad for smoking? Prolonged use CAN result in an addiction which would make you NEED this which would be inconvenient for you and those around who do not enjoy the smell of smoke or inhaling it by second-hand.. but its not the propaganda some churches have blown it up to be.. same with drinking.. Now epeshians 5:18... People use this verse to advocate prohibition. I agree, that a certain level of intoxication of alcohol can lead to doing things you might regret... but complete prohibition isn't what this verse is asking. If drinking was as bad as some people try to make it out to be, an all-knowing God would've been more specific to say something along the lines of "Do not drink anything alcoholic. Ever. Period. End of sentence." Its okay in moderation, overusage of just about anything will kill you including water.. "trying to be a friend of the world = HATING God" A friend to the world would mean loving it. "For God so LOVED the world".. A friend is kind and compassionate.. "Be kind and compassionate to one another"... If you're using the world as a reference to Satan or sin, then I see your point.. but otherwise... you're saying we should hate the world... not good advice in my opinion. ACB isn't advocating rest in willful sin, its advocating rest in the fact we aren't perfect and God has found a way for that to be okay. Jesus said, "Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you ~REST~" Jesus didn't say, "Come to me all who will be able to be perfect after I die for them and they all feel sorry for themselves for the rest of their lives, cause I could care less about your happiness.. even though I'm gona die for you, but yea.." When you give Christianity such a religious approach, you lose its appeal and its exclusivity from other beliefs. You should read "Blue Like Jazz" or "Searching for God Knows What" by Donald Miller. Miller is able to describe the Christian faith as something separate from a religion, but rather an ever-flowing relationship between a God and His creations. Sorry for my condescending attitude, its just frustrating to see people turn away from God because they're told to constantly be perfect or else they go to hell. |

| When you read these lyrics, you can see he is struggling with pain of some sort. "take a look around. if there's a god then he must be asleep".. but in the song his longing is for there to be heaven on earth he's asking heaven to come and restore a fallen earth.. I think thats the point of the lyric | |

| '84 Sheepdog is the type of car that the characters Harry and Lloyd drive in the movie Dumb and Dumber. The message of the song deals with the analogy of sheep and wolves.. somehow this was thought of.. pretty clever. Great movie. Great band. R.I.P. A.C.B | |

its disappointing to think the world is black and white. to think that it is so simple to be able to analyze every situation at any given point in time dumbs down the idea of an all-knowing God.. I think his point in the song is that some people(especially a lot of Christians, unfortunately) somehow lose the humility needed to gain real knowledge and assume they have the answer to every situation as if the world is black and white by applying (in certain cases) irrelevant or misinterpreted biblical themes. and also in the majority of those cases, the people with the very flawed point of view enforce their idea by juding the one they think is in the wrong.. this song is his response ,in my opinion, is to those people. its pretty arrogant to think you contain absolute truth, that's God's job ;) |
