| Rise Against – The Strength to Go On Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| For a while I kept mishearing this as "what we are is the sum of a thousand LIVES", which I took to be a pretty poetic take on the whole 'no man is an island'/everyone is simply the product of the culture they are part of idea. I was kinda disappointed when I read the lyrics and realised it was "lies", which just seems like typical edgy anarcho-punk crap. | |
| Levellers – One Way Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
>"all the problems of the world wont be solved my this guitar and they won’t stop coming either” I think (correct me if I’m wrong) relates to protest singers. I think it's a bit more specific than that. The singer IS a protest singer, really -- the Levellers are a very political band. He's saying that even though singing in protest is completely futile (it won't solve all the problems, and new ones will come and replace them anyway) he's gonna keep on doing it, because that's just who he is. |

| Levellers – One Way Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| I think this song is about choosing a life outside of society's norms -- while all his friends are growing up and wasting their lives in boring jobs ("all my friends and all their jobs And all the bloody waste"), he's having an emotional life (learning "to love and laugh") as an anarchist punk. I think the message is that there's more to life than society's prescribed path of school>marriage>work>death, but you have to find it yourself. | |

*a woman who NEEDS a sexual RELATIONSHIP. I swear I included those words, but apparently I forgot them. I must be more tired than I feel. |

| Damien Rice – Volcano Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
I think this is a song about a woman who a sexual, and a man wants an emotionally supportive one. Evidence: What do volcanoes do? The spurt out liquid. She is building her world around cumshots. She "holds herself like that" to be seductive. He doesn't want this, and can't relate - he tries to help her ("you'll hurt your needs") but their standards are completely different. "All he needs" is to kiss her "mouth and back", but she needs him to go further. They're each doing what they think is right, but they what they want from each other is just incompatible: "you give me miles and miles of mountains, and I ask for the sea". She needs sex and isn't getting it, he needs emotional support and isn't getting it either, and they are both fully aware of it and the fact their relationship will never last, but he still can't get over this and is still in love with her; "she's still too young to treat". |

| Neutral Milk Hotel – Ghost Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
Perhaps the lines: "All drenched in milk and holy water Pouring from the sky I know that she will live forever She won't ever die" refer to the mixture of milk and water that is sometimes used as rain in films, because regular water rain doesn't show up particularly well on camera. I think it's saying that Anne Frank will "never die" because she will be remembered by the public consciousness - an example being in cinema. |

| Damien Rice – Delicate Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
"we are just as bad as everyone else" Except that's the problem. Human sexuality is not 'bad', it is a fact of life, and a part of who everyone is, whether you like it or not. Some christian teaching seems to hold this confusing and even damaging idea that sexuality is somehow impure and wrong and something we should be 'rescued' or 'forgiven' for. 'Forgiving' people for being sexual is like forgiving people for drinking water or shitting - it's just part of our nature, and it is by far better to accept that than repress it. I'm not implying you necersarily believe this, but there are definitely christians who do. Not trying to get into a theological debate or anything here, but yeah. |

| Levellers – Beautiful Day Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I disagree with temporary sedative about the guy fawkes bit. Unless the Levs don't really know who Guy Fawkes was (eg an extremist Catholic terrorist), I couldn't really imagine such a left wing, atheist band to really be singing his praise. | |
| Amy Macdonald – L.A. Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I always thought it was about people who really were in love with celebrities even though they had never actually met them, but getting over it. | |
| Keane – Pretend That You're Alone Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I hadn't thoght about it like that, but now you mention it... | |
| Levellers – Behold a Pale Rider Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
"Bombs go off in London, Stirred panic's rhythmic creep, The city turns its shoulders, Smooths the cracks and tries to sleep" So true. |

| Levellers – Sell Out Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| It's so blatant and yet so deep. Beautiful, the chorus in particular. | |
| Muse – Soldier's Poem Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I think this is the soldier's feelings towards the government. The government has imprisoned him in war, and he resents them for it, but he would still die for them, and he is questioning how the men in power can be free when he can't. | |
| Muse – Knights of Cydonia Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Reminds me of Firefly, especially the laser wielding horse riding intro | |
| Levellers – Together All The Way Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Very uplifting song. | |
| Muse – Hoodoo Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I love the last few lines "And i've had recurring nightmares That I was loved for who I am And missed the opportunity To be a better man" |

| The Automatic – Secret Police Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I love this song. It seems to be comparing a relationship to soviet Russia, or possibly nazi Germany. It starts off with a joyous "revolution of hearts and minds", when they are young and in love, and everything is happy, and they have a wonderful future to look forward to, as they thought they did after the Russian revolution, but soon "the rot sets in, mistrust and suspicion". As time goes by the partners stop feeling the relationship and just start acting ("The freedom to say whatever we like, replaced with the recital of lines") to avoid persecution from the other half ("the secret police"). | |
