To me, this song is about a husband and wife. They're both rather old. The husband has cancer. The wife is just admitting her love for him and that they've had many happy times together. Things may have been tough for them, and they may have struggled. The part about the bible not mentioning them suggests to me that they may be religious, or they where religious at a point. The bible not mentioning them also suggests that religion didn't/doesn't contribute anything to their lives anymore. Almost as if they've just grown out of believing the 'lies'. They want to spend their remaining time together being happy, and not living by some 'silly rules'. That's what I get, anyway. |

To me, this song means a variety of things. Obviously, the first thing you get from this song is suicide. But the 'come on daddy' reminds me of a child, trying to get a parents attention. This, to me, reminds me of the holocaust, and times like that. When there's a lot of trouble and bad things going on, especially for jews (Spektor is Jewish) and the 'come on daddy' seems to me like a child, trying to almost 'save' the family from what's happening. The part of the song that talks about socks and getting them on right also suggests what i've just said, about the whole idea of a child. The gas-mask bit also suggests about the holocaust. I get a lot of different meanings to this song. |

actually, i think i may have spotted a mistake? The last line seems to be 'you've won' rather than 'you want'. But maybe that's just me? :S |
