The way DIG! portrays it is that Courtney wrote this song as sort of a joke towards Anton. He showed it to Anton privately hoping he would get the joke but Anton didn't like it. As a result the Jonestown guys showed up at their video shoot and trashed it. To get back at them the Dandys showed up at their house uninvited and staged a photoshoot and in return, Not if You Were the Last Dandy on Earth was born. This song I don't like too much, but that song is brilliant! |

Marguerita is telling Tom that love happens. You can either act on your thoughts about love or let love pass you by. Relationships can be anything you want them to be. They can be kinky, boring, lustful or all of the above but they are all equally exciting so it would be stupid to let any kind of love pass you by. Don't let being scared get in the way because a kind of love you think you wouldn't like could be the best. You can't know what it will be like off the bat but it is fun to take the chance and find out. Marguerita wants Tom to take that chance with her. |

My take on it is, and it makes a lot of sense, is that it is a relationship. Lets just pretend we know its a man and a woman. In the first passage it is where he starts to realize that it is a waste of time to work the relationship out because it may never work and he might as well keep on partying and havinga good time. Then when he starts acting shady she is telling them that he is being foolish and acting hard, haha obviously. All Right! is his response, kind of saying it in an apathetic manor but then expresses to us that he wants to tell her that he is over it but he is "holding his teeth in his hands" or keeping his mouth shut so that they don't fight. The "It comes very softly" and "It comes softer" is him telling us he is letting her down gently. When she says "here comes two of you. Which one will you choose?" she wants him to chose between the him that would leave her and move on with his carefree life and the him that wants to work on it. The last passage of his lets us know that he still really wants to break up and the "ah, it's getting a little softer, maybe, in there" is where the actual break up occours. The "Ah its coming around again" and of coarse the great line "There are problems in these times, but wooo, none of them are mine" instill that he is happy with his decision. Then in the very last passage, it is her asking how it feels to be loved, she wouldn't know, because he didn't express love for her and took the easy way out. She expresses dissapointment in his actions when she says "Here we go again, I thought that you were my friend".
