Umm, this may just be me reading too much into it, but does anyone else notice the One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest reference, with "Brain dead flow, vegetable zucchini?" Cuz, like, the vegetables were the completely brain dead patients... maybe its just a non-sequitur, i don't know. Great song, nonetheless. |

Well, as most have said before me, this song is obviously about Machmahon and his reaction to thoughts of death. Also like before, i agree that you cannot look at every song on the glass passenger as if its about cancer and its affects, but this one is too obvious.
Personally, I've always thought of this song as being not about a person who has already died, but in the process of. They are weak, and frail, etc., and the people around them are having a hard time seeing them for who they truly are. However, this person, lets call him Andrew, is telling Annie to use her telescope, or look harder, to find him. Telescopes are used to look at things far away, and even then they still may be hard to see. Andrew is telling Annie that although the old him may seem far away, keep looking, because he will always be there. |
