| The Tallest Man on Earth – Love Is All Lyrics | 13 years ago |

I believe this is a song by the initiator of a breakup. The evil in his pocket could be something in his pocket that reminds him of another woman, or could be a harsh word that he has in his mind. The river is the love he has for the woman he is breaking up with, and also his relationship with her. When he walks on that water he is showing pride by being separate from the river, benefitting from her love for him but not immersing himself in it. that makes him feel guilty. Her will is in his hand because she still loves him and she will do whatever he says. He is going to break up with her which will break her heart and he knows this is wrong. "His heart likes to kill" because a part of him enjoys breaking up. the spikes that fall are the harsh words he says to the woman who still loves him, and also a recognition that similar spikes will come for him from her or in his future from others. spider webs is just the weakness of the relationship relative to the problems that are coming, which are in fact coming from him anyway. All of this is wrapped in the sacrilege of comparing himself to Jesus (pbuh) for walking on water. This breaking up with the girl is compared to the Christian understanding of Jesus because he hopes to be resurrected but it's taking too long and he broke his own heart by leaving her. the tears that come are hers and he lets them go meaning he goes about his life despite her tears, but also his, and he lets them go because he either abandons himself to them or "lets them go" by callously turning away from them. savior because this love changed him, but sin because he's breaking her heart. |

| The Last Shadow Puppets – My Mistakes Were Made for You Lyrics | 13 years ago |

786 to me it's a beautiful song because of the wordplay in the chorus and the first line, and because of the low note melody and the rhythm of the words. the apparent meaning is that it's about a boy and girl who are seeing each other, who got together spontaneously while out with their crowd. they are destined to break up. why we don't know, but considering how self-castigating the writer is, he is apparently using her for sex and she is innocent and he is arrogant, and that explains the embrace of arrogance and innocence. i believe he overplays the darkness of his own intentions--he is not the "filthiest of minds" and his conscience is not that much more crooked than a lot of people. if he feels so bad about what he is doing, which is wrong, no doubt, he could instead of writing a song just dial back his using of the poor girl. so i would prefer if the song could be made a little bit lighter but i truly believe the wordplay is just brilliant and like i said i really like the rhythm of the song lyrics, poetic, amazing. just dial back the self-flagellation and i'll like the song more. |

perfect, i really agree with this. this song is about the beginning of idealized love, inviting the beloved to throw away responsibility, but the song doesn't deal with the inevitable aftermath of broken hearts and sadness and pain. i also agree about the chasing cars thing--it is probably meant to be a little bit of a mysterious reference to that chasing cars thing--maybe an acknowledgment that the relationship itself is like catching the car and not really knowing what to do with it. it might not work perfectly but it makes a lot more sense than a lot of other popular songs with lyrics that are just nonsensical, even if musically beautiful. thank you it's nice to see a review that we can agree with. |
