Evanescence is in NO way a Christian band! Not at all. But maybe they'd still write a song having to do with God or Christianity....Amy Lee claims personally to be a Christian (yah right) but the band as a whole is not. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KiOJOY-hFQ |

Maybe it's about another form of abuse? Even if it was about rape...sometimes when a child gets raped or hurt by someone they like and trust, they will still love them deep inside, despite the terrible wounds. |

Yeah, she did start drugs at ten...I don't know, some of the lines in this song, such as "Your hand's coming down again," really stand out to me as a story of childhood abuse. |

Yes...I think that's exactly what Lacey means. And knowing the kind of childhood she had...it wouldn't surprise me at all. What an understanding song, right? |

This song has changed my life in so many crazy ways. I was a cutter for several years, and this song really helped me to feel not alone. Tiffany was my hero for a long time for daring to address this issue. I saw an interview about this song and it made me cry (http://www.megavideo.com/?v=6V6EZFZK). I finally know now that Jesus, you know, when he was on the cross, his wrists bled, and he felt so much pain, and he did that so I don't have to.

It's about SI...but I can definitely see how you get that interesting point of view on the song. That's what I thought the first time I heard it. Years later, I listened to it again, being a cutter, and I got it..but have you heard Plumb's song Damaged? That's a song about molestation...very very sad, but beautiful. |

Wow...this song has so much meaning! First off, I don't think it matters whether or not it refers to anorexia or bulimia, just that it refers to an ED is enough. I never really had an "ED," but I started planning my diets and starting eating REALLY little. Anyhow, I don't do that anymore...this song has been really inspirational, and I think there's a great message of hope in here. I still battle with my self-esteem and whatnot. Like the song says, "There are days when I'm okay...for a moment I find hope, but there are days when I'm not okay..." Beautiful song, really. |

Where did you hear that? In an interview, she said she'd never been abused in any way, but she still sympathized. So...if you could give me a link to where you heard that, I'd really appreciate it. |

Didn't she say she never knew her father?? I don't know, but she talks alot about her mom being single. I agree that sounds like rape or molestation. But maybe not by her father. |

You probably have the demo version of the song. Which doesn't ever mention clothes, but only "thoughts" and "heart" like you said. The demo version is completely different, so I see why you're sort of surprised at the missing lyrics.
I reveal what you steal
From all of us
We take it back, we take it BACK!
and later..
But I heal
With this story always welcome,
Constant with this
But I heal
I won't compromise
And I heal

| Evanescence – I Must Be Dreaming Lyrics

To me, this song is about sexual or physical abuse. For those who are lucky enough to not know, you bleed when you're raped, and of course, you bleed when you're beaten. Yeah.
So in my opinion this song is about the author witnessing some sort of abuse (physical or sexual). She sees what is happening, and all of a sudden, the abuser hears her breathing. Fearing for her own safety, she turns away. The abuser hides the abuse carelessly, perhaps by not bothering to hide the blood or hide the wounds created. She never thought the abuser would do this, because she may know him/her very well. She freaks out, "no, I must be dreaming! it's not what it seems!" |

Actually, yes, this part of Okay/Tina is about Tina as well. It's about how Tina wouldn't be satisfied with just being "okay" and instead tries to live life to the fullest and tries to help others believe in God. Lacey explained this in a AQL concert in 2008. You can watch in on YouTube and she explains it. |

I thought the same thing...because if the song was about abortion, it would be true. More and more people are having them, and having babies is "falling out of fashion" which is a HUGE tragedy. But, to stay on the point, yes, you're right, that's what I think. |

Excuse me...I find this a little difficult to believe. Just so that you know, the stories in the album cover are different than what the songs were actually written for. I don't struggle with either sexual things or with money, and when I heard the phrase "You lie with her," I thought of sexual immorality. I wish I could ask Lacey...wouldn't it be awesome to see why she wrote it, before the stories were written?? I'd probably be so wrong, haha! |

That's exactly what I thought when I first heard the song!! Like MetroidFreak said, thats what I was going to post...thanks for it doing it for us!! I love the song.
And plus, not trying to start an argument, Flyleaf doesn't "label" themselves a Christian band, but spend a few minutes with Lacey or the boys, and you'll see instantly that they are all deeply devoted Christians, and that rubs off in their music. =) |

Are you sure she says, "The swine" in the beginning?? I thought she was saying, "Tell this one..."
Hmm, oh well. Even so, taking in the context of the song (snow on your face and your razor blades, end of these hammers and needles) I have trouble believing she was talking about literal pigs. |

This is my opinion on the song. I posted it below, including the lyrics...ya, I'm a Christian, and I believe Flyleaf is a Christian band, but I don't think this song is about God. I think it's about self-harm. Anyway, here you go... |

I still recall the taste of your tears (not literal tears, but the cut's bleeding)
Echoing your voice just like the ringing in my ears (it's voice is in the pain, the blade's sound rings)
My favorite dreams of you still wash ashore (she enjoys dreams about the pain, relief, cut)
Scraping through my head til I don't want to sleep anymore (she doesn't want to sleep for thinking about self harm)
You make this all go away (cutting makes all the pain in her life go away)
I just want something I can never have (she wants relief, and you cant get it from cutting)
You always were the one to show me how (show her how to cope)
Back then I couldn't do the things that I can do now (she couldn't cope the way she can now)
This thing is slowly taking me apart (of course, cutting is taking her physically, emotionally apart)
Grey would be the color if I had a heart (she feels empty, grey)
And I'm starting to scare myself! (she's scaring herself with this awful addiction)
In this place it seems like such a shame (the harm looks like a shame her, maybe in a church or among other people)
Though it all looks different now
I know it's still the same (even though it looks different in this place, it is the same to her eventually, and she'll do it again.)
Everywhere I look you're all I see (she sees pain and bleeding and harm everywhere)
Just a fading reminder of who I used to be (the scars might be fading, but she was still a cutter, though for now she may have stoped)

| Flyleaf – Much Like Falling Lyrics

This song reminds me of when I was a child...
I have been emotionally, and even sometimes physically, abused by my father my whole life. I had no friends, I had an impossible teacher, and I had PTSD. I was ten years old when I started cutting myself, and I cut myself all through my tenth year, really deep cuts. When I was eleven, I tried to kill myself, by literally "falling." I could see myself hitting the ground as I fell off of this high, high place. I was seriously ready to fall off, when my friend Brennan came up behind me, gripped my wrist really hard, and said, "I WON"T LET YOU DO THIS!" I had to "let go..."
But now I'm a christian, and this is behind me
However, this is exactly what Lacey was talking about, and I can totally relate to this song. |

This song is totally about abortion!! I think it's from a person's perspective whose mother maybe considered or tried to have an abortion, but didn't. (Maybe it happened to Lacey...her mother was single, and probably somewhere in her teens.) "I've seen all your motivations, ones for good and ones for hell," refers to the motivations of the attempted abortion. The good ones ("I don't want my child to starve, and I can't take care of it") and the bad ones ("This is a foul creature, and I don't want it!")
If you had eyes to see down inside your stomach, you would understand that the thing inside of you is a living human being, a precious child. |
