| Steely Dan – Dont Take Me Alive Lyrics

I think the guy blows himself up in the end. He doesn't even let police get the satisfaction of killing him.
"I know all at once who I am."
Definitely a fugitive though...come on guys, I know Walter and Donald were out there, but that's a little too much for me to accept. It's a song about self-realization, and how low this criminal has sunk, in his desperate and depraved attempt at forming a life. He hates himself in the end. |

| Umphrey's Mcgee – Wife Soup Lyrics

this song is definitely sweet. It's the song I direct people to listen to who have never heard of Umphrey's. Either this, or push the pig. But, what does this song mean? Maybe it's like these rock stars finally settled down and they've realized their girlfriends and/or wives are the awesome parts of their lives even though they all kind of dilly dallied and didn't propose or want to settle down. Now that they're in a serious relationship though, they can't realize why they didn't do it sooner and how it's so much better. Maybe also a little bit of amazement at how far they've come, as people, from college kids playing for fun to festival headliners and world renowned musicians. I don't know though. Definitely fun to listen to this shit during workouts. |

| The Beatles – I Want You (She's So Heavy) Lyrics

it's well known lennon was a functional junkie at this point in his life. heroin. "she's so heavy". it's like the climax of the song with the choral arrangement in the background and the organ. then it kicks into that super bluesy groove after he's all fixed. then, at the end it cuts off abruptly, just like his high, and you're left wondering what the hell you were so caught up with in the first place. so much buildup and grandiosity all for naught. |

| The Zombies – Time Of The Season Lyrics

maybe this is just my 21st century biased opinion, but to me, it kind of sounds like a guy picking up prostitute. The daddy of course is the pimp, and "Has he taken, any time to show you what you need to live" is about how the girl's pimp doesn't show her any of the spiritual aspects of sex, as opposed to the purely physical, commerical aspects. Maybe this is total nonsense. The creepy organ vibe kind of gives me an empty sad feeling, which maybe being a prositute feels like. |

| The Beatles – Happiness Is a Warm Gun Lyrics
| 16 years ago

This song is totally about using heroin. A warm gun is a loaded syringe...hot shot. John was a junkie at this point in his life.
"When I hold you in my arms and I feel my finger on your trigger..."
right before you shoot up and the anticipation is killing you, you know you're about to feel perfect euphoria. |

| Ween – It's Gonna Be (Alright) Lyrics

ween's penchant for melody is usually covered up by the bizarre and gimmicky aspects of their music, but these two guys are real artists. this song shows it perfectly.
"...and if the mist ever lets the sun through" gives me chills. |
