Subtle corrections: You say you're not going to fight 'Cause no one will fight for you. And you think there's not enough love And no one to give it to. And you're sure you've hurt for so long You've got nothing left to lose. So you say you're not going to fight 'Cause no one will fight for you. You say the weight of the world Has kept you from letting go. And you think compassion's a flaw, That you'll never let it show. And you're sure you've hurt in a way That no one will ever know. But someday the weight of the world Will give you strength to go. Hold on the weight of the world Will give you the strength to go. So hold on the weight of the world Will give you the strength to go. So hold on the weight of the world Will give you the strength to go. Just hold on the weight of the world Will give you the strength to go. |

Wow, these lyrics are all wrong. When you look in the mirror Wish you were somebody else Just a perfect reflection You and no one else Minutes run into hours Hours run into days You're still waiting for someone Who never ever came Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Never be the same again Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Never be the same again You were always saying something You swear you'd never say again You were always saying something You swear you'd never say again Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Never be the same again Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Never be the same again Go and run through the hallways And find your way to the door You will end up like always Back where you were before Then you look in the mirror Wish you were somebody else But its still your reflection You and no one else You were always saying something You swear you'd never say again You were always saying something You swear you'd never say again Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Never be the same again Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Never be the same again No matter where you go You'll never find your way home You'll never find your way home No matter where you go |

Unless I'm mistaken, the song seems to be about the inaction of people and someone's trying to convince them not just to do something, but to do something right. "It's time to fuck or leave", make a damn decision on which one you're doing already. But at the same time, the song seems to say that there's nothing wrong with being home at the end of a long day...and then that home is in the dirt. Or a grave. And with a burning future in the mountain, it seems like there's no future for the person who's laying in the dirt. And then, finally, there's the awesome image of people taking pictures of a tidal wave that's about to kill them, while smiling, or grinning. So they don't get that they're in trouble, and they just think that what they're seeing is awesome. So...maybe the song is about people who just don't get that the future's going to hit them like a ton of bricks unless they pay attention to what the hell they're doing. It's the dead town's last parade, but it feels like just another day, because they're not recognizing the fact that the town's dead. Inability to see beyond the present and plan for the future. That's my interpretation. |

A correction to the lyrics based on the album version: Out of the alleys On needle-strewn fields Into the sunlight The brochures reveal Like snakes come for rabbits And rabbits for meals Where the ore and the axe flies Well this is our story (stick to it!) But it ain't the truth Cuz the truth's just for liars That need an excuse Around here love's a gangster And charity's the proof Where God deals on Sundays Under a rain burning roof It's 5 blocks of universe And aliens for each Like invisible ghettos Of privilege and grief And pinned up between them The carrion flies Living off skeletons of recycled lies This is the place we find out Well this is the way we find out We all live downtown Pay two even, no parking Live with a clown Step over ourselves We all live downtown Pay in blood, no parking Sleep on the ground Step over ourselves We all live downtown We all die downtown Step over ourselves (over ourselves) We all live downtown We all die downtown Step over ourselves (over ourselves) Step over ourselves We all live downtown We all die downtown Step over ourselves (over ourselves) Step over ourselves Well this is our story (stick to it!) But it ain't the truth Cuz the truth's just for liars That need an excuse For a King crowned a banker The Queen crowned a noose Like heirs to a graveyard Where the dirt's always loose It's 5 blocks of universe And aliens for each Like invisible ghettos Of privilege and grief And pinned up between them The carrion flies Picking off skeletons Under a big northern sky This is the place you find out Yeah this is the way you find out We all live downtown We all die downtown Step over ourselves Step over ourselves |
