| Neutral Milk Hotel – Two-Headed Boy Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Thinking 'Two Headed Boy' refers to his head and the head of his penis is definately not right lol. I am interested in all these interpretations though, as it is a hard one to crack. I get the idea that he is disfigured, etc. and figuratively speaking some kind of outcast to society *could refer to Jeff or to the Jews during the Holocaust, I can't say with certainty which* but there's some kind of connection with a girl as well and there's a gentle beauty to that, especially jutzaposed against the negative connotations to being outcast to society and the violence and brutality of life generally. I'm not entirely sure what this song is about, but I do like the vibe I get from it (explained above) and just love that about it. |

I completely agree with hmstaab06. I think, given Amanda Palmer's personality, this extends past a story about a relationship which didn't work out. I don't think every song in existence is about romantic relationships, contrary to the number of songs which are. >_> I think this song is about who she is and how she does not fit into the constricting type of person, or the "shoes" of someone she should be. The sarcastic twist on the part of the tale, which I thought, was connected with the part where Prince Charming summons every woman in the village to try on this glass slipper to find out which is the one he fell in love with, may be a reference to the very limited traditional female role as defined by men, given Amanda Palmer's feminist beliefs, especially considering the line" if the slipper fits you wear it, whore." Dispute me if you will, I think it's an interesting idea nevertheless. I also think "other girls shower but I give out flowers to curious strangers who throw dollars at my feet" suggests a reference to the story of Pygmalion or My Fair Lady where Pickington tries to mould this 'uncooth' girl ("and my big mouth strikes again") into something completely different. It plays on the same idea of not belonging to a set of ideals proposed by somebody else and how painful and disillusioned you become because of it. |

It isn't a typical song about 'self mutilation' or 'cutting.' It may not even be 'cutting' Amanda Palmer is neccessarily describing, it is the just most evocative and straightforward form of 'self-destruction' making it a prime choice for exploring the subject matter. It could be 'drug abuse'; 'alcohol abuse', anything that is abusing one's body due to a deeper mental disturbance, or as some people prove- teenage angst >_> Anyway, what I love about this song is that it is not self-pitying or superficial like some other bands have chosen to represent the subject matter. It is about WHY one would choose to adopt such behaviours. Her anger at all these things makes her "want to give mankind a beating" until the very end when she expresses how she feels neglected and un-cared for and that she is so angry she wants to give herself "a beating" and thus inflicting her anger on herself instead of what is really making her angry- the external factors/people, because she can't give them "a beating" but she can abuse herself. It is a brilliant song lyrically. Plus the Dresden Dolls are fucking awesome. |

| The Dresden Dolls – Lonesome Organist Rapes Page Turner Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I think this song is about Stockholm Syndrome to an extent. "So like a stupid child I believed it." She is becoming more and more brainwashed by her abuser after being made vunverable (communicated in the violent imagery- "matchsticks in my pants,"etc) by the intial abuse, and then being manipulated by this enigmatic criminal. She even protects him by keeping "truth & consequence from meeting", which I think is one of the most interesting lines in this song. "So several decades have gone by" and she is fargone- completely brainwashed by him. I find the the comments talking about her biography saying she was seduced by her piano teachers. I don't think this song is completely connected to this, but it is probably why the abuser is a "Lonely Organist." This probably fairly superficially influenced her in writing this song. Organist also gives me a kind of creepy, 'Phantom of the Opera' type vibe. |

| This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. I saw her perform this live at the Sydney Opera House. It left me in tears. It is about having to keep going no matter what. | |

| Wasn't this about Panic at the Disco when Dresden Dolls supported them in the early 2000's? Or is the video clip misleading? | |
