one of my favorites. about sixzerotwo's theory on the woman being a double metaphor for mainstream hip hop: i agree. who says he can't be singing about a literal woman and a metaphorical one at the same time, anyways? here's where i derived the conclusion from: -his headphones remind him that he hasn't made it to the "big time" -the harvest of "September" (another of his nicknames) is the money he makes from his albums -"I'll form the sentences, you try to interpret": he's writing the raps, we're trying to figure them out -"It'd all be so simple if I was rich (But I'm not) But I'm not so I compensate with thought (I got a lot): he doesn't make that much money from his raps, so he pours quality in it instead -"wimmin' in a bottle of imposters": the rap industry is full of illegitimate posers -"Stole the city, I still feel helpless": he won popularity at home, but nationwide it's still somewhat low -"And see if I can get her to need me": he wants the rap industry to need him -"All it takes is a stroll down the street A pro and he greets and he sold the life to me": you have to sell your soul to be pro maybe? -"the hair police have got what you need For you to get over me and move on with Godspeed": critics brutalized his "hair" song ... there's more. just think it over ;) beautiful song. slug always has so much emotion, anger, and angst. |

| Busdriver – Imaginary Places Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
It's possible that mister Busdriver here is talking about God and Heaven, though in a negative way. From what I can tell, the "imaginary places" that people are "buying real estate" in is Heaven. And I think that maybe he actually says "H-I-M know how I hate Him so", "Him" being God; if this is true, then it would make sense of the next line: "but He charged me for a halo". Again, the "He" is God, and God is being accused of asking too much of Busdriver for admittance into Heaven. Notice that Busdriver mentions on numerous occasions that he feels he is under constant surveillance: God or "evil Christians" are "spying" on him, ready to "judge". And when he talks about "informative pamphlets" and people that are "just here to hold your hand when you die" it could be that he is referring to Christians who attempt to convert those in their death beds. This is simply what I interpreted from the song. To make things clear: I think Busdriver is an amazing talent, however, I do love God more than all and if this skilled rapper is in fact mocking my Savior then I am sorely disappointed. |
