| Ween – Voodoo Lady Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Why does literally every entry on this website for a Ween song have someone insisting the song is about drugs? Gene and Dean, as drug addled as they are, actually do encounter a wider range of emotions and experiences than just, "Durfledurfle let's write another song about heroin and shit." Give them more credit as songwriters. | |

| The Dismemberment Plan – You Are Invited Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This song actually is kind of frightening to me. I think the song works very abstractly, to create a world where one person gets affirmed and loved by everyone around him, "When I got to the place there were smiles up and down," and when he tries to speak sincerely with his ex, she kind of just robotically recites the "you are invited" spiel. I would find a world where no one criticizes you or acts real with you would be very lonely and disillusioning. So, it is kind of a positive song. We don't need to be "invited" to everything-- we want the entire world to love us and be interested in us, we may want to be everywhere and want everyone to require our presence, but perhaps there's a good reason why we aren't in that position. | |

| I can't believe this doesn't have lyrics. It's sad, but he shrugs his shoulders. We're all looking for a way to feel our lives have begun, and maybe the next unrealistic, idealistic move, moving away, waiting for the big burst of inspiration, will not come, or maybe it will. At least there's a compelling mystery to it, I think he's saying. And until then, let's not get too wrapped up in all this. | |
| Built to Spill – Planting Seeds Lyrics | 16 years ago |

The Bill Hicks reference refers to his joke about people in marketing and advertising, and is from where the song title is derived: "By the way if anyone here is in advertising or marketing... kill yourself. No, no, no it's just a little thought. I'm just trying to plant seeds. Maybe one day, they'll take root - I don't know. You try, you do what you can. Kill yourself. Seriously though, if you are, do. Aaah, no really, there's no rationalization for what you do and you are Satan's little helpers. Okay - kill yourself - seriously. You are the ruiner of all things good, seriously. No this is not a joke, you're going, "there's going to be a joke coming," there's no fucking joke coming. You are Satan's spawn filling the world with bile and garbage. You are fucked and you are fucking us. Kill yourself. It's the only way to save your fucking soul, kill yourself. I know what all the marketing people are thinking right now too, "Oh, you know what Bill's doing, he's going for that anti-marketing dollar. That's a good market, he's very smart." Oh man, I am not doing that. You fucking evil scumbags!" Obviously, like any good comedy, works very well when delivered by the comedian, who has timing and such. I'm really stoked to see two of my favorite things merge into one. I love you Doug, I shoulda know Bill Hicks is one of your heroes! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDW_Hj2K0wo |
