Maps And Atlases – Witch Lyrics 16 years ago
I love the line "please be able only to see the legs in front of us" and agree with the biblical allegory suggestion.

This line specifically deals with, I think, feelings of fear coupled with bravery...

Think about it...

Jerusalem is sleeping in our front yards right?
Our faces are dirty with warpaint?

Imagine: you're marching toward the enemy, your mind is racing, you're inexperienced and young, your life is in danger.

Your soldier has a simple request--to be able to see only the soldier's legs marching in front of him. He needs to push distractions and feelings aside. He needs to center.

Everyone needs to feel some degree of control, especially in uncontrollable environments (i.e. war...). Even if control is really only an illusion.

His vulnerability is dizzying, but he presses on.

The dude's a regular bamf.

The honesty contained within this one line makes the song incredible.
