I've been listening to it for a year and I can't seem to get anything continual! But this is the best I can do: Eyes lit I want short breaths I've got no eyelids Nice breasts Like the sun Begin to repent But lights press The soft skin To rough hands. Apparently that's wrong, but it's become the No Eyelids Song :/ |

| Metric – Raw Sugar Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I think it's about just general society - she comes home from work one day, and realises that she's just helping the people that she despises. And in turn for her helping them, they give her no reward. She has so little money that she believes she'll never get out of the cycle and 'living in a high rise grave I pay to call home'. So she reminisces of the times when she believed what she was doing was more pure and innocent, and less about making money for the people that make life harder for her. She remembers about being at school and being truly herself and only doing the things she wants to do 'cause now I'm a baboon, boys' - a faceless creature no one could distinguish from others of its kind, paid to be looked at by members of the public. She ends up wondering why she didn't take every opportunity while she still could, and realising she'll never get a second chance. |

| This is so sinister and ethereal in places, it's like the curtain between the grim reality (in the lyrics and the mumbled verse) and the surrealism of the lights and fame (the choruses) has been blurred or erased. | |

Hmm yeah, I guess...but what about the 'But if stars, shouldn't shine By the very first time' bit? I thought that was more like, if there's not a connection immediately, they should let it develop.. |

| This is just so unapologetic and bouncy! It's really anthemic as well, it'll probably become their 'song'. | |

There's no way it's 'licking out'! I think she's talking to a person who doesn't love the projections that she tries to be to please them, but who loves who she actually is. The last bit could be her dropping her pretences but still being self-conscious about it and not believing they'll actually accept her as she is. |

| I think it's about a really disastrous first date with someone, and then trying to ask for a second chance because there's a real connection there. | |
