I think it's about really loving someone who has left you. At least the relationship isn't intact and she is struggeling with their distance/breakup. And she can't let him go, but she realises that she has to to be happy. She doesn't want to say goodbye but she will because for now it's the only right thing for both of them. But only because she lets go, it doesn't mean that she doensn't loves him with all her heart and hopes that there will be the right time one day. That he will come back to her. But until that day, she will move on with her life. I totally can relate to the song. My boyfriend broke up with me some month ago and I cannot let go, because he just won't tell me that it is finally over, he always leaves me hoping. And maybe when I menage to let go and move on, and least with everything but relationships, he will realise that he wants to come back. And maybe in the future he will. Who knows? 'The only way to really know is to really let it go' or 'I'm gonna wash away everything 'till you come home to me'. I think those two lines describe the song the best. If the hope is actually lost or they really belong together is annother thing and I think everybody has to answer it for themselves. |

I would say that the lyrics are about a breakup which wasn't easy for both sides. But the girl fell in love with someone else, which she told him and which made her cry, because she didn't want to lose her partner (the singer) and couldn't let go of their nights. With the other guy it's not a serious thing at the moment because otherwise he wouldn't ask her just to dance or kiss her on the cheek. But it develops and while his (the singers) girl is with this new guy, he realises that he can live without her, but that he won't be happy, even miserable. For me 'Because these words were never easier for me to say or her to second guess' refers to the 'I can live without you'-part. He can tell her that he can live without her and she guesses, that he can. In the second stanza the singer says, that he hoped that they can live their lifes together, every single day. And that he was ready to give her everything, but she coulnd't take it and left him. And now that he's alone he's not sure what he is good for anymore. He knows there is something, but he needs to find it again after he has lost her. And now they haven't talked for a week and he isn't able to sleep because of the images in his head. He knows that it would best for both of them to leave her alone, but he is too weak to do this. I'm not sure if she asked him to leave her alone, but I don't think so because otherwise she wouldn't have cried in the first stanza. And of course, he misses her a lot and the feeling she gave him. It reminds me a lot of my exboyfriends because we broke up for the same reasons and especially the first weeks I was too weak to let him alone. And I still miss him a lot. |

I think it's about breaking up, even though it's not what you really want, but what you need. You ask yourself what went wrong that you couldn't last. That your partner showed yourself a side of you, that changed you so much, you don't know who you are anymore. And that you because of this change you cannot go on like you used to do. ('I know I would apologise if I could see your eyes; cause when you showed my myself, you know, I became someone else') I would say that the song is also about finding oneself, but have to live with the consequences of losing someone on this way. ('Cause if I find my way how much will I find you?') He was torn between what he needs, what she needs, what they want. But he needs to find way the most of all. The nightmare part is about the pain a break-up causes, but it's something you cannot keep away from you. This step is inevitable. Of course he wishes his love all the best, that God is always with her and protects her from any harm. Even if he can't be with her anymore. I think that song is very sad. But It's a phase everybody has to go through in life. It's great how he transforms this into a song. |
