I think this song is about a soldier leaving home. The first verse is through the soldier's point of view as he is leaving home and is saying goodbye. In the second verse, I think the soldier has been seriously injured and in a critical state. His family and friends have sent him cards to wish him well. As for his ultimate fate, I'm gonna say he died as the chorus has a kind of tribute-y feel to it. "The sun will set for you" to me means that the world will honour the sacrifice this soldier made. |

First time I heard this song I thought it was about someone who used to be this strong figure who took all his beatings standing up, but as time has gone on he can't deal with everything the way he used to. I think the line "remember when I knew a boxer" is the singer looking at the person and remembering when they were this kind of fighter or warrior. |

i agree, they definitely are advocates for saving the world and looking at it in that way, it's very easy to interpret the song as being about the environment. However, the beauty of RA's lyrics lie in the fact that they can be interpreted in various ways. I doubt there is really a "correct" answer, i guess it depends on the listener's interpretation. Personally, I'd agree with the idea that it was about a complicated relationship.
Gotta love RA. Tim's lyrics are pure genius. |

i love this song. it sends out a message of integrity. stand tall, no matter what other people say. just captures what RA is all about, not giving a flying fuck what others may say. |

amazing song, probably one of their best.
as for its meaning, in my opinion it's about making a difference and becoming more than just an average joe. the narrator obviously has a problem with the present human condition and the last thing he wants is to be a part of that, rather he wants to known and remembered for being special.
it's a great song and something we can all use to inspire us to become great. once again, rise against has made one ass-kicking song. |
