The White Stripes – Effect and Cause Lyrics 16 years ago
come on. about iraq? please. jack said this "i never thought rock and roll could have any real influence on politics or the state of the world. If the beatles couldn't get us to love one another then what chance do the white stripes have?".

give jack a break man, he's singing about how he's fed up with some girl's shit, and how she can stop talking about him behind his back because of it to people they both know, which is what happens all too often with relationships that have past their used by date. he sings it so cheerfully and it is a nice wee country song because he truly is over this person.

just fuckin relax and believe what Jack says, he's a lot less mysterious than you think, but he's HONEST. if he was going to make a political statement he'd probably be more blunt about it, he'd say something like "Well Americans want nothing better to do, why don't you kick yourself out you're an imigrant too, who's using who, what shall we do, well you can't be a pimp and a prostitute too".... oh no wait.... he did say that.

come on. the best thing about Jacks lyrics is their honesty. come on. don't over think it too much.. but then again, if music makes you think then thats good. well done.

i love you all for loving jack and meg, they're just the best. most other musicians just seems so FULL OF SHIT when compared with them.

The Dead Weather – Treat Me Like Your Mother Lyrics 16 years ago
i think this song is about Jacks ability to spot a lie. Jack is a cancer, cancers are the mothers of the zodiac, we can spot a lie a mile away and we get to know the people we love inside out, as a mother knows her children. can anyone here genuinely look their own mother in the eye, lie, and get away with it? no way! it's because your mother knows you, and you know she knows you, and when you lie to her you know you're lying and you know she knows you're lying and you know she knows you know etc. lol. i think its about how Jack is a good person and help the person (or people) you love to the death, as a mother would, but he can tell when someone's trying to pull the wool over his eyes. it's a hard concept to explain. Allison singing it takes on the role of the mother like lover, and jacks part takes on the dark side of that, how it might feel to be known so well, or have it assumed that you're known so well.

i <3 jack.

The White Stripes – As Ugly As I Seem Lyrics 16 years ago
GBMS came out after elephant, which was a huge album. Jack and Meg saved rock and roll with elephant, but i don't think Jack was quite prepared for it. i think he's just saying "look, thanks for liking the album, i don't really know what to think of this! shit!" and saying that he's what he's always been, he's no god, he's just Jack, and he wants to remain as truthful as he was before elephant. the drop of blood on the ground bit i think he's saying i don't know if it was him who caused all the hype or the people who fell in love with his album. hard to explain. i am as ugly as i seem. you know? i'm not a god, i don't even think that you think i'm a god, i don't know what to say or who to say it to, i'm just a guy who was fed up with shit music, and i'm not even that good at anything (although he is, he's very modest and nervous, which makes him even better, gives the music it's feel) and i'm gonna stay that way.

i think that GET BEHIND ME SATAN (although a biblical quote) is a metaphor for Jack and Meg having to reject anything that will change them, you know, turn them in to something they never believed in and never want to believe in, or give in to, no matter how much fame and money they accumulate from their work (egoism, etc). shit i fucking love this band. i listen to them and think about their music tooo much.

The White Stripes – Cash Grab Complications on the Matter Lyrics 16 years ago
i'm just going to add to that too.
"as you melt in to my mind"
i think that means, nothing, nowhere, ever, will stop me thinking about you, you're there 100% of the time.

this song is gorgeous isn't it? i love jack and his emotions.

The White Stripes – Cash Grab Complications on the Matter Lyrics 16 years ago
i always thought this was quite obviously about one (or both) of Jacks children.
"There's a duty to this loneliness, the good of everyone involved...but the rest will be explained to you as our bodies begin to revolve."

i thought that was some sort of apology for him being away on tour or working while they are young, but he thought it was for the best for everyone, his kids, his wife, the musicians that he helps. etc.

as for the bodies revolving, they will grow and become the future, as he will grow old and become as frail as a baby (need looking after).

"What gave me this power to construct you
Your guess is as good as mine
If you'd like me to return you to the stones from which I brought you
Well, you have to do your time"

i think this is his disbelief, he can't believe he's created something so beautiful and perfect.
and "the stones from which i brought you", i think this refers to the nothingness that there is before and after life.

Jack is a Cancer, we cancers are the mothers of the zodaic, i truly truly think this is about his baby (or babies).

does anyone agree?
