Don Henley – The End of the Innocence Lyrics 16 years ago
Speed,

If you honestly think Obama is a communist, and is solely responsible for the state of the nation, then you're a delusional paranoid schizophrenic who needs medication. Seriously. Get of the internet and seek professional health, because you're not dealing with the real world anymore.

Iced Earth – Damien Lyrics 16 years ago
"Cursed Nazerene,
I will avenge thy torment"

This part of the lyrics always confused me. That's most certainly not an orthodox interpretation of the Antichrist from Christian mythology.

Symphony X – The Serpent's Kiss Lyrics 16 years ago
Also, it is important to remember that in Paradise Lost, Satan thinks that by tempting Eve and Adam with the Fruit of Knowledge, he is actually acting in their interest. He seeks not to corrupt God's creation, but to "free" them and make them his ally.

Symphony X – The Divine Wings Of Tragedy Lyrics 16 years ago
It doesn't seem to relate at all to a shift in narrative point of view. To me, it seems to suggest not Lucifer's triumph, but rather his reconciliation with the Word.

The Clash – Spanish Bombs Lyrics 16 years ago
No, it's not. Basque Country is in the northern most areas of Spain, centered around the historical Kingdom of Navarre. Andalusia, a leftist stronghold in the Spanish Civil War, is at the southern most tip of Spain.

Furthermore, the song continually refers exclusively to events in Spain from 1936 to 39, not to modern Basque seperatism.

Green Day – Working Class Hero (John Lennon cover) Lyrics 16 years ago
I question whether or not Billie Joe Armstrong and the rest of Green Day fully understood the implications of the song they chose to cover. Armstrong is a card carrying member of the right-wing, free market fundamentalist "Liberatarian" party of the US.

Lennon wrote "Working Class Hero" as a socialist anthem, which even the most casual observer would realize would obviously stand at odds with a political ideology that sanctifies private property.

Green Day – Working Class Hero (John Lennon cover) Lyrics 16 years ago
I think it is pretty clear that the "Meet the New Boss, Same as the Old Boss" sentiment was NOT a sentiment that John Lennon was trying to evoke. Such a sentiment is not an argument against revolution, but rather an argument against bosses. As a person committed to revolutionary politics, John Lennon himself understood this.

However, I do not know if Green Day fully understand the implications of this song. Lennon wrote it as a working class socialist anthem during a time when socialism was still the most powerful moral force in the world.

Iron Maiden – The Longest Day Lyrics 16 years ago
Nameless, Bruce has made it clear on more than one occaission that war is not something to be romanticized or entered into lightly. Even the "Good War" of the Second World War, which stands alone in history as perhaps the one time that there was a definite struggle against evil, is filled with horrors and atrocities committed by the good guys. That's the truth of it, and song's tone clearly follows that. The soldier's fighting on the beaches and drowning in the mud may have had the best of intentions, but the men who "sent them here" were far from morally exemplary.

Iron Maiden – Brighter Than a Thousand Suns Lyrics 16 years ago
The first two lines of the last verse are incorrect.

On the album booklet, it reads "Divide and conquer while ye may/ Others preach while others fall to pray"
