Wait, did we live in the same neighborhood then? lol. My best friend Jason commited suicide 6 years ago. When he was 20 and I was 19. A good friend of ours, Brandon o.d'd on heroin just last year and died. My ex high school girlfriend Jamie dropped out of school in 9th grade, pregnant with her first child, she has had 5 now. She was head of the student council and in mostly honor classes. My friend Mark is a guitar player in garage bands. He smokes pot and drinks heavily. I think he may have a job now, at McDonalds. I am not joking at all. I think this song was written about my old neighborhood name by name. I am going to have to see if Dexter Holland grew up aroung me somewhere lol. Seriously. It's uncanny! |

DreamersDisease. Awesome! No one else could have interpreted the song any better. That is the exact meaning of this song. I am a songwriter myself, so it is easy for me to feel what a writer/vocalist is saying and feeling in their lyrics. Especially when it is emotional such as this amazing and powerful song by one of the greatest bands to ever take the stage. His emotions change in the song, first he wants her to go, get as far away from the sin and darkness that is Corey, but towards the end he starts to blame her for leaving. He starts to feel angst towards her for doing exactly what he asked her to do, for listening to the sinful man that she loved so dearly. Great interpretation Dreamers! You hit it right on the head! |

BTW I forgot to mention, the "Ain't it fun" Connotation is sarcastic, meaning it isn't fun at all, in truth, it is fucking scary. |

Song is about being so hopelessly strung out on drugs that you are literally watching your life go to shit. When you are so addicted that your friends don't like you anymore, you run from everything, you can't keep a band together, you lose the one you love, and you inevitably are going to die young if you don't get away from the drugs. THAT is the meaning of this song. I have been there, this song spoke volumes to me the first time I heard it, happy to say I have 14 months clean! Guns 'n Roses cover was better in the sense that they had more technology to record with when they covered, but the original is always the best, because without the original no one could have made a "better" version, right? |
