| I always thought this song was about Heaven, in a sense. Especially the lines, "You're packing a suitcase for a place none of us has been, a place that has to be believed to be seen" and "Home--I can't say where it is but I know I'm going home." No one knows where Heaven is, and none of us has been there, and it has to be believed in order to get there, but all the believers know they're going. | |

| This is probably my favorite song of all time; I love it. It's so beautiful and sad; it always makes me want to cry. The thing I love about is that even though Bono wrote it about the Bloody Sunday attacks in Northern Ireland, it really could be about any tragic event in history. 9/11, Columbine, the Oklahoma City bombing, the London terrorist attack, you name it. The first line (I can't believe the news today, I can't close my eyes and make it go away) perfectly captures that feeling of shock and horror you feel when you hear about these events. | |

"And the poison rain Brings a flood of fear Through the ghost ranch hills Death valley waters In the towers of steel Belief goes on and on..." For some odd reason, this line makes me think of 9/11, and the state of the country after the attacks. I know that sounds crazy, since this song was released 13 years before 9/11, but for some reason it makes me think of that. The poison rain (the attacks on the World Trade Center) brings a flood of fear to the U.S in general. Ghost ranch hills could be New York after the attacks. But despite of all this, belief goes on--belief in our country, the ideals it was founded on, and the power of her citizens to do great things. Just my thoughts. |

| Switchfoot – Chem 6a Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| To me, this song is about the state of America's youth. Everyone thinks we're just lazy... choosing to goof off and watch TV instead of doing anything worthwhile; not wanting to know what's going on around us. But maybe the real reason we do this is because we don't want to face our fears... we don't want to know all the terrible things that are going around us, we don't want to grow up and inherit this screwed up world. We don't want to be here, and see all this. | |
