Cage the Elephant – Aberdeen Lyrics 14 years ago
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thought this sounded like a pixies song. Seriously though Kurt Cobain literally has nothing to do with this song or band. Just because Kurt was born in Aberdeen how the hell does that make this song about drug use or him? I don't see the logic at all. That's like saying that every song written about New york is about Frank Sinatra and that's just fucking stupid. way to grasp at the proverbial straws kids. I'm not saying It's not about drugs though, because I'm pretty sure they have something to do with it but they aren't representing the whole metaphor either. I think it just a song about self control or lack there of.

Hayley starts out saying that something bad happened when she was wishing for something good to happen (praying and scraping her knee) Then how realizing that her special place that she thought she could always count on for comfort started to be part of her problems.

"I want to know what it'd be like, to find perfection in my pride, to see nothing in the light."
She's saying that so many people who are Christians are not even decent human beings and they take so much pride in thinking that they are right that they are blinded to the truth. She's saying that she doubts that there is a god. She wants to know what it'd be like to have unfailing faith but at the same time she's saying that would be a bad thing.

In the chorus she's saying that she knows there's something wrong but before things change they're gonna have to lose it all.

"The tragedy it seems unending, watching everyone I looked up to break and bending." She's talking about the safe haven from the first verse again. She's saying that she thought all of these religious people around her started out great in the beginning and she thought they were perfect. Now she sees they aren't such great people.

"Well I can see behind the curtain. The wheels are cranking turning, it's all wrong the way we're working. Towards a goal, that's nonexistent. It's nonexistent, but we just keep believing"
It's like the wizard of oz The lord of the land is the wizard and he is the man behind the curtain he was the god. As we know it was just an old guy behind the curtain. She's saying she knows now that the man is not a wizard or god at all just a charismatic man who is hiding behind the bible. She realizes that the bible was written to control people and take their money. She's saying now the wheels are turning she's finally thinking for herself. She's saying heaven is a goal that's nonexistent but the way they are acting they wouldn't get in anyway. The other people keep on believing though to feel better and they keep being bad people and she wants to change but she thinks that until something horrible happens no-one will listen.

Tykam993 I don't get your response at all! Honestly what are you trying to say? First of all the song is about Hayley she wrote it and she is younger but it's about people period not just kids. I don't know how her saying that something bad happened when she was wishing for something good to happen (praying and scraping her knee) has anything to do with what you said. Then how realizing that her special place that she thought she could always count on for comfort started to be part of her problems translates to what you said. "I think this means that the person is praying that people will all be friendly someday, but they can't really believe it and that would be the demon." That makes no sense.

"I want to know what it'd be like, to find perfection in my pride, to see nothing in the light."
