Gordon Peterson (singer, lead founder of "Indio") could be referring to "her" as a woman, or Nature, or something else. Music is for anyone to interpret, it can mean different things to different people. Thats the beauty of it. This song could easily be about a woman, and the story of how she gave, and gave, and loved, and cared, yet the singer didn't respect her. He didn't respect the love he was given, and had a need to leave her, and tried and tried. Yet as he took from her, and disregarded her, she kept taking him in, and loved him still. Until he finally managed to leave her, and she was gone from his life. He realized how much she meant, and felt guilty, and shocked with himself, and "its still coming down on me" This can also be interpreted as a song about a relationship with a mother. As stated above, this song can also be about nature. On the Indio album Big Harvest, many songs including "This Golden Land" (great song) seem to be about nature. Its a popular theme, an outcry from Gordon to stop the rape of earth. But in this song, Hard Sun, he could be singing about the pillaging of nature, how man takes, and takes from her, and she continues to give. But in the song, eventually nature dies, and we can't do anything about it. One last concept: as stated in the chorus; "There's a big, a big hard sun, beating on the big people, in the big hard world". this could mean, along with the rest of the song, to be take heed and be the better person, love everyone, be thankful for your friends and family, because its a hard world, and when they're gone, you're left to take the load of life by yourself and you'll find out how hard it really is. So make the most of everything you have, before its gone. This is my favorite song, it has a great soul about it, its inspiring and brings joy upon listening. Really a fantastic song, thank you Gordon Peterson and the rest of Indio. |

| uh.... not really. "I'd like to fly, but my wings have been so denied." Something is holding Layne back, and knowing Alice in Chains, they're lyrics aren't usually about women and having parties. | |
