| Brand New – Millstone Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| No.. millstone is pronounced millstone. the correct lyrics are "I'm my own stone around my neck" as in he is the reason for his own emotional burden. further proof: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/millstone it actual sounds the word out for ya just in case | |
| Brand New – Upward Over the Mountain (Iron & Wine cover) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| the devil and god has to be the most mature rock album (lyrically wise at least) i have ever listened to. I am a huge fan of both brand new and iron and wine, and they both have incredible talent. ill agree this cover isn't nearly as good as the original, but he doesn't cover it to try and make it better, but to spread it and to share it with his own emotion and gift. But if you would actually look deeper into the lyrics of many brand new songs, it really astounds me that you can't see talent there. | |

Sounds very accurate im just not 100% about "the drunken remainder" unfortunately, it sounds like more religious iconography, something about a manger. But hell its much better than i could do, and this page definitely needs an update |

I think it might be "well if the sky opened up and started pouring rain, like we knew He was gonna start things over again" as in a reference to God's flood in the old testament. Also just wondering if anyone knew the lyrics that are sung in the background during the "if we take all these things, and we.." ? it seems to be different words and the song ends with two different phrases sung simultaneously. thanks |

| Brand New – Limousine Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Actually, the song is about the true and tragic story of Katie Flynn, who was either a six or seven year old, who was the flower girl at her aunt's wedding, and on her return home in a limousine, a drunk driver was booking down the opposite side of the road and straight into the limousine kate was in. she was decapitated, and her mother got out of the limousine she was in that was behind the one her daughter had been in, and picked up her daughter's head from the middle of the road, and cradled it in her arms as the fire department, etc. got her daughter's body out of the vehicle. Kate's mother told reporters several days after the crash that she had held her daughter’s decapitated head in her lap at the scene and had to be physically separated from it by emergency workers. The intro of the song (the first stanza) is from her mothers point of view, and the correct lyrics are actually "her signal interrupts, baby's frequency not strong enough. Remain in my hands and smile, we will miss you but in time you'll get settled, and we will write". The second stanza is from the point of view from the drunk driver, saying how his guilt will crush him, and the counting to 7 is guessed to be because her age, and also it has biblical meaning (7 sins, etc.) like much of the album. During the last verses, the lyrics sung in the background (I'll never have to buy adjacent plots of earth, We'll never have to rot together underneath dirt, I'll never have to lose my baby in the crowd, I should be laughing right now) is from Kate's perspective, telling of how she wont ever have to deal with loses herself, so she "should be laughing right now" -- song and lyrics are incredible, extremely well written, and probably the saddest, most beautiful song I've ever hear. | |
