Just because Dylan denied the mantle of "Spokesman for a Generation" doesn't mean he wasn't. I always took the song literally 'til the other day I was examining my current relationship and the words came to mind. 60 years later it hits me like a ton of bricks.I think I decided it was an anti-draft message. Protect, defend, right or wrong. Folk music's not an impossibility, I don't think Dylan did folk, he is folk, everything he does. And I'm not sure he does everything he does. I think there's some streaming and channeling going on. He even said, "I don't even know what they (the songs) mean". Anyway 60 years later that's my 2 cents. |

Of course you know a snuff film is a pornographic film in which one or more of the participants is actually killed on film. Obviously these films are rare and highly prized by some elite porn aficionados. Only available to the privileged few. A jumbotron is a big screen TV. Usually seen in giant sports stadiums. I think what Connor is doing here is distilling the previous verses. A snuff film on the jumbotron is what all the pulling prying and beating looks like on the evening news or any media outlet for that matter. In a nutshell, Don"t be some victim of life, getting screwed and killed, for all the world to watch on the news. On their big screen TV's. |

I remember hearing about Knopfler and Dylan having a falling out as the result of the release of Infidels. The Dylan album was produced by Mark but Bob released it without Mark's seal of approval. My take on this song is Mark taking a shot at Dylan from the Roadrunner's perspective of superior speed and cunning. LIttle clues in the lyrics point to Dylan. You can't catch me Coyote Though there may be blood on the tracks There may be some bridges burning Behind our backs. Blood on the tracks is obvious, Bridges burning is from Infidels, Don't Fall Apart on Me Tonight. Dog dreams might be from Self Portrait. If Dogs Run Free. Anyway just my thoughts on some possibilities. |
