| I think it is interesting what North Writer said about this being about Jeff's newly-widowed father, as for me this song is sort of about my girlfriend who's about to lose a dog that's important to her. He's got heart problems, his time is up, and he's been acting funny. When she told me about this last week she was so upset, and said "It's just amazing how temporary everything is." I wasn't totally sure what to say to that, so I sat there for a while... but then I said "Well if it helps, I won't be temporary...unless you want me to be." and she started crying and said she didn't want me to be temporary. So this song... is sort of perfect. It sounds like Jeff was comforting his dad through the loss of his wife, saying "well at least you've still got me. We can get through this together." And that's sort of what I'm trying to say too. | |
