| Meat Loaf – Where The Rubber Meets The Road Lyrics
| 15 years ago
|
If you ask me, it's a critique of the politically correct society, along with the blame culture and nanny state. "Used to be sex..." implies a desire of return to the permissive days of before. A good song, intense, and brilliantly close to the bone.
Meat Loaf rocks. No discussion. |

| The Pogues – The Irish Rover Lyrics

No, the Irish Rover was fictitious. But she would have been impressive! 27 masts! Even the Cutty Sark only had 3!
Does anyone know about the crew? Were any of them based on real people? "Fightin' Bill Treacy" (also spelt Tracey or Tracy) especially interest me. Can anyone help?
Many thanks! |

| Ke$ha – Mr. Watson Lyrics
|
Not a good song!! It merely encourages young girls to make moves on their teachers. Young people are really susceptible to pop stars' influences, therefore, by encouraging this, Ke$sha is encouraging girls to pressure their teachers into having sex with them, so they're then branded paedophiles. Or worse, the teacher refuses, the furious girl says he did have sex with her, and the guy's career and life is ruined.
A very bad, and frankly, dangerous song. |

| Jim Croce – Workin' At The Car Wash Blues Lyrics

Its rather cynical, really. Here is this guy who is obviously better than what he is doing, but who is undercut by society "They wouldn't listen to the fact that I was a genius / The man say, "We got all that we can use."" This is especially true in the UK at the moment. |

| The Kinks – Dead End Street Lyrics
|
It always thought it was a pretty harsh attack on the rat-race, and the dificulty of getting out of the oppresive, endlessly cyclical period. Appropriate today for students with huge student debts looming over them when they leave University...
The idea of "Dead End" is pretty depressing - the idea that there's no future, no incentives to be drawn from life. Isn't this reminiscent of one of the biggest failings of Soviet Russia? |

A beautiful song, I believe it's fundamentally about faith. Life can take everything, but you still have God "Faith as solid as a stone". A powerful testament indeed. |

| The Shadows – Don't Make My Baby Blue Lyrics
| 16 years ago
|
Ok, it's corny. But it has a great melody, and it's one of the few songs the Shadows actually sing. Though their music appears everywhere - who can forget Apache or the music of Local Hero (with Mark Knopfler)?
An old-fashioned love song from an old-fashioned band. Great, isn't it? |

| Billy Joel – Souvenir Lyrics

"Souvenir" means memory in French, probably a deliberate pun here, talking of the fading of memories.
A beautiful melody. One of the great things about all of Joel's music is that it's great poetry, as well as great music. Brilliant stuff. |

A rather good strike at gossip-magazines!
It's always really annoying seeing "Celeb" spreads in magazines, one thinks why the paparazzi and journalists can't leve the poor guys alone! |

| Billy Joel – All You Wanna Do Is Dance Lyrics

This song is one of my personal favourites. It is filled with great lines, but my favourite line has to be "I think you are lost in the seventies". This is many years later, but I'm still stuck there... Despite the fact that I was born in '93!!
A great song, a great artist. That sums Billy Joel and his music up. |

| Cat Stevens – Matthew And Son Lyrics

I personally always thought this was a song about gangsters (Mafia?) with Matthew and Son being big shots in the gang.
On the other hand, my Mum thinks Matthew and Son are oddjob men (?).
Still open to debate, I think! |
