| Probably the funkiest call for a revolution ever. | |

I'd say the reason it works so well is that it's not only sexy but very funny as well. It's joyful. "The song makes me want to fuck everyone." Truth. |

| The Mountain Goats – Pale Green Things Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I like the interpretation that the pale green things are the signs of goodness and humanity he saw in his stepfather that were nevertheless weak and smothered by the the rest of his personality - I think the choice of seaweed and sawgrass is less for their colour and more for their binding, clinging and somewhat harmful nature; sawgrass will always hurt you, and seaweed can drag you beneath the water. The one segment I'm somewhat confused by is this: "Sometimes I'll meet you out there Lonely and frightened Flicking my tongue out at the wet leaves" I see the sentiment almost of forgiveness pointed out above, although I'd point to the ambiguity of 'lonely and frightened'; is he saying that he recognises that his stepfather was the way he was because he was an isolated and scared man, or is he saying that he will always feel like a scared child in the presence of his stepfather, even in his memories? I don't get the last line of that segment though. Anyone have any ideas? It feels like he's conjuring up some kind of image, but of what? Feel like I'm missing something. |
