Its pretty obvious this song is about being addicted to heroin right from the beginning. As a former addict myself its painfully obvious. "Whats gone wrong? I cant see straight. Been too long, so full of hate" This is about going into heroin withdrawal. I dont know how common it is but when i was in bad withdrawal i would have vision problems and wouldnt be able to see straight, maybe layne would get the same thing. The next part is about withdrawal and how every junkie tells themselves they are gonna quit soon. Next part "stare at me with empty eyes and point your words at me" is about bickering about things while high including the addiction itself. When people are high on heroin they sometimes get irritable. Something ive dubbed ron rage. People argue about dumb shit when they are high. "Mirror on the wall will show you what youre scared to see" it seems someone might be trying to blame layne for their problems when they are that persons own fault. That person is the problem. The next verse is about trying to sleep while sick, and then about taking a trip to score heroin (gotta get pin cushion medicine) and how at first using was due to curiosity but now its necessary to function. Next part is about how layne didnt want to be an addict like his dad but now he is and accepting it. Pretty self explanatory. The chorus is obviously about how heroin numbs you to the world, and since be wants to be high all the time he wants to be numb. |

The hair of one who bit you is referring to a hangover cure type deal. The actual phrase is "the hair of the dog" It's when someone wakes up in the morning with a hangover, and in order to get rid of it drinks more alcohol. "as the hair of one who bit you"-doing heroin in the morning to feel better "Smiling bite your own self too"-I'm assuming he is saying that someone shoots their bud up then shoots up themself after, i suppose. It's possible he wrote this song about Demri or someone else in his life who was addicted to heroin. I say that only because it seems in the song he is talking about somebody else and it would make sense. |

| I'm pretty sure this song is about having nothing to write about, but still sitting around and trying to come up with something. | |

| This song isn't about rape. It's about the media IMO. But even if it isn't, I still don't think it's about rape at all. | |

I believe this song is about 2 people falling deeper into drug addiction. Particularly heroin. Good morning dear, I think im losing it Can't find my way and I'm, I'm getting used to it Sun refuses to shine on this side of the street I'm not recognizing anyone I meet Trying to hide in the shadow of the sun [But] your not fooling anyone this verse doesnt really have any drug references, just the general feeling someone has when in the depths of an addiction (which blows cock i might add) Oh, acetone Won't you ever leave me alone Oh, acetone Oh, acetone Basically this part is just saying, will i ever be free from you? (the drugs) Look at me and answer truthful now did you drink that last spoonful down She drinks from the bitter cup I'm trying to get her to give it up Oh lord what have we become We're not foolin' anyone This is the part that really convinces me its about drug addiction (heroin). Did you drink that last spoonful down? part, heroin is often cooked in a spoon when preparing it (not always, but for black tar heroin, which is the type in seattle, where mudhoney are from) Also, heroin has a bitter taste. My feet are dragging down on this dusty old road My throat is dry and I'm all alone I remember when we walked side by side When I was parched I would drink in your sight I never meant to make you run I never meant to hurt anyone Same old feeling of hopelessness in these verses, another drug reference (in my opinion) in the line "When i was parched i would drink in your sight" meaning, when he needed his drugs, he would do them in front of whoever the song was written talking to. The next part is talking about how that may have scared the person away from them, because the average person doesn't see somebody shoot up heroin in front of them really ever... This is just my interpretation though, and i believe it may be right. I don't think mark arm wrote it about himself, because i've never heard about him having a heroin problem. But, being part of the whole seattle music thing, a lot of his close friends did. (he was friends with people like kurt cobain, layne staley ect..) So he could have wrote it about one of his friends that were in a disfunctional relationship with a significant other. |

| I think that this song is about heroin. Think of the line "Black is all i feel so this is how it feels to be free" Black is a common name for black tar heroin, and at the time when he wrote this song its possible he was clean, and the song is about dealing with everything without drugs. Makes a lot of sense to me. | |
