| Oh btw don't you think this song sounds quite "indie rock"? There's a few like that on the album, and I don't mind that. | |

Totally agree with Jenlie, "don't stop sucking me in", because he wants to keep trying to make it work. Love the bridge, love the Healthy in Paranoid times. |

I guess being a father has to change your outlook on the world somehow. I don't think Raine has changed, even if the music style of OLP has. He still thinks the world is a pretty crappy place, but if you have children of your own you've got to have some hope that things will be allright, for their sake! ("You'll get through") |

Yep I think you're all about right on this one. It's about being stuck in that boring job doing boring things just to fit in with society: the exact thing you promised yourself you'd never do when you were 15-20-25 years old... All those dreams and grand ambitions have been toned down over time. Somehow the song reminds me of the book Generation X by Douglas Coupland (a Canadian author btw, most of his books are quirky and worth a read!). Roughly: the characters (born in the 60s and 70s) are jaded young adults trying to find some extraordinary thing to do with their lives. But they're kinda stuck in a rut and having to conform to make it trhough. OLP are GenX, and somehow I think they would have read the book, and identified to it. 'Cause I kinda did too. |

Awesome song and I just hope it's true about the monarch butterflies, because it fits and I find the idea so cool! Definitely the best song on the album for me, I like rock, energetic, quirky. Even after 3 albums I still find it hard to get my head around OLPs new sound. This album is slowly growing on me. Going further than the softer tone of the music and back into the lyric meanings helps. |

I partly agree with Fallen Leaves. The song sounds quite happy (a bit like most songs since Gravity) but really it's a sad song, because it's only in the Dreamland that "the kids are allright and the sky is blue". The way the song starts about Mother setting the table and Dad working hard reminds me of my own childhood. Raine and OLP grew up in the 70's and 80's and the world was definitely a different place then. We tended to know our neighbours more, as kids we'd just go play outside and roam the streets and we'd be safe. Further the song says that a man dies and no one gives a fuck. We don't know our neighbours anymore. All his friends are getting older, things are changing, sometimes just for the sake of changing. I think this is a nostalgia song. To me it's a childhood memory song. |
