Jenny Lewis – She's Not Me Lyrics 9 years ago
Man, I've been here myself. Who hasn't? I've been the crazy, jealous ex-girlfriend (who cheated) and I've been the new girlfriend (who hates this terrible ex) too.

This song is about a girl who royally fucked up her last relationship. And she's recently learned that her ex-boyfriend is happy (not nearly as empathetic as Adele, I'll tell you that much) and in a new relationship.

She jealous because she realizes she had something amazing. She bashes the new girl a bit singing, "But she's not me, she's easy" because in her delusional state of mind that's the only thing she can hang on to. "She's not me." She believes she was a cooler, more passionate lover. She feels like she's so much more, so much better. But, truthfully? She probably was just more dramatic.

And she's not wrong about this new girl. She IS easy. And that's why he's with the new girl. She loves and respects him. She's the mother of his child. She's not going to cheat on him.

At the end of this song, I'm happy she's not with her ex-boyfriend anymore. She was the absolute worst!

Noisettes – Never Forget You Lyrics 14 years ago
I think plusbellange was on the right track, but did everyone forget about the possibility of a lesbian relationship??? I don't think this song is about a boy at all. I think it's about her first girlfriend. And, I don't think it's merely a coincidence that she calls this person "Joy", which is a female name. The line, " You know the stripes on a tiger are hard to change" coupled with " My boyfriend's mother nearly had a heart attack" leads me to believe that she always liked girls( maybe secretly?), but only dated guys in the past and then fell in love with this girl. Also, the line about borrowing the silver boots is proof that "Joy" is a girl. How many straight guys have silver boots that their girlfriend borrows and wears? But, the silver boots line also made me think about the end of a relationship when each person gives back the things they've borrowed ( books, dvds, t-shirts etc... )
