ArisenPhoenix is right, it sounds like the end of a friendship. It reminds me of when I lost my best friend. When she got engaged she litteraly became another person, she was mean to me and I didn't need all that negativity and criticism, so I had to cut ties. I miss her to this day. But I have to focus on my husband and my work, I'll make new friends eventually. This song makes me think of that. |

"My art my redemption, my only salvation" ... I think the song is about having the courage of making a living out of your artistic talents. I've read somewhere that Draiman used to be an orderly or a receptionnist in an hospital, and that he was around 25 when he started singing, so I guess it's about having the courage of leaving the "traditionnal" working world to make a living out of what you truly love doing. |

I have read somewhere that David Draiman comes from a very conservative Jewish family and that his parents expected him to become a rabbi. So I guess this song is about how he is torn between his actual life and his education, and how he has to be a different person when he is around his family. There is a picture of him at his brother's wedding in Israel, where he is wearing the traditionnal little hat (don't know the name, sorry) and has removed his earrings and lip piercing, and I think it illustrates that song very well. |
