This song is obviously about LeRoi Moore who's nickname was Grux. I think Dave uses the lyrics to describe the complexity of LeRoi. He was an awesome musician and human being but he was flawed too. I think its also about LeRoi's struggles with success and fame..."Til I was slave and master at the same damn time". Dave shares this thinking according to interviews. I think Dave uses the line "So when my ghost takes me from you, You can remember the fool that I am, don't cry baby, don't cry" as a way of describing the band's loss and pain with moving on but that LeRoi will live on with them forever. I love how much this song has turned into an anthem at concerts, its a fitting tribute to such a talented person. One correction with the lyrics its "Oh bow to the priest while I worship the witch" |
